Lupe Fiasco is one of the most prominent rappers of our time. Extremely popular, talented, and well respected, right up there with all the other big rappers. Definitely didn't need the publicity, and it's really crazy that he did what he did.

Come on, I like Lupe...but he is hardly one of the most prominent hip hop artists of any time.

And why is it really crazy...this is what Lupe has been rapping about since 2006.

It's similar to Rage Against The Machine...I'm sure if they were still recording today, they would be singing anti-Obama songs because they are against the government and our political system. Their target (and Lupe's) will be who ever is in charge at the time.

I think a lot of people are trying to equate Lupe's rant as a pro-right wing rant...when in fact it is quite the opposite.

Nitpicking this thread seems pointless. The overall message is the same. Lupe is fighting the good fight and standing up for truth. He deserves any and all public attention he gets.

I love how some people think setting the facts straight is "nitpicking".

Awesome for Lupe to get up and do this, kudos to the man been speaking the truth for a long time. Not surprised most of the older members (30 myself) haven't heard of Lupe but he is out there. I follow him on twitter and the man is a non stop fighting for the people type guy. Theres a guy here in Vancouver I guess in Calgary now called Conspirituality has a song ambushed, and a few others along the same lines as Lupe.

Fact is there are a lot of people out there trying to open the eyes of all those half asleep when you find them you appreciate them and hope the message takes, and if not always good tunes to make ya remember someone out there is still fighting the good fight.... Never lose hope....

The context of his rant matters.

If Lupe did this in the White House at an official inauguration even with Obama in attendance, there is a different reaction and meaning behind the event.

But this is Lupe being Lupe...this is what he does at all his concerts, this is the content of his songs...the OP is trying to make a big deal about it because the event he was at was called an "inauguration party". He is trying to link it with Obama.

The only reason this thread got any attention is because the OP intentionally mislead people with the title....otherwise it would be a thread about the lyrics in Lupe's songs.

lupe is a great artist. i love his latest album. he always speaks the real deal in his songs.

Not every event happening in DC this past weekend was a "pre-inauguration" event.

Censorship by the government is forbidden.
Any private organization can censor things at their venues. And happens all the time, even on this site. Especially* on this site.

It's rather pathetic you trying to mislead people. This was an even put on by a group called StartUp RockOn, it is to promote start up companies. This party was held at The Hamilton, not the White House. Obama was not at this event, he had nothing to do with this event, the event organizers used the "inauguration party" tag as a marketing ploy. Just like when bars all over the place have "Super Bowl" parties...but none are affiliated with the NFL.

Keep on trying to spin this into something more than it is...it is quite entertaining.
