Some 21,000 children die every day around the world. That is equivalent to:
1 child dying every 4 seconds
14 children dying every minute
A 2011 Libya conflict-scale death toll every day
A 2010 Haiti earthquake occurring every 10 days
A 2004 Asian Tsunami occurring every 11 days
An Iraq-scale death toll every 19–46 days
Just under 7.6 million children dying every year
Some 92 million children dying between 2000 and 2010

The silent killers are poverty, hunger, easily preventable diseases and illnesses, and other related causes. Despite the scale of this daily/ongoing catastrophe, it rarely manages to achieve, much less sustain, prime-time, headline coverage.

Instead of taking care of real world issues our fine leaders would rather bicker about guns, violent video games, and movies. Instead of spending our money to support life around the globe our fine leaders would rather spend it on war and pointless monuments to themselves (as well as pocket a good bit too). Instead of taking action to ensure the children of the world have a chance in this life our fine leaders ignore them if they are not dropping bombs on them. Our fine leaders are not pushing gun control for you and your children's safety. They are pushing gun control for their own safety when the masses finally realize what their fine leaders have been up to while they were working their lives away. Wake up this is the real world and if you are really stupid enough to think that the gov does what they do to protect you and your kids you are a fool. You are the enemy in the eyes of our leaders. You are a parasite that they feed because they do not have the machinery to replace you yet.

Numbers that evoke emotions.

As far as I am concerned, when we can take care of our own country...then and only then can we help others.

But we all know that'll never happen.

Even the private charities are often corrupt.

Why would you feel the need to mention guns, unless you are attempting to divert attention from that topic?

I think the second amendment is of utmost importance to US citizens right now. SInce you brought it up.

We could take care of our own problems if we had honest folks running the government instead of corporation paid poster boys

Well I was going to mention the whole sandy hook thing and point out the fact that our wonderful leaders dont actually give two #s about the plebs offspring

but I removed it because I did not want it to become one of those threads

I'm a honest enough guy. Politically incorrect as well. I calls them as I sees them.

If I were ever to suffer a brain fart and run for office and actually win...I'm sure that I would be dead before the end of my first term.

Freakin' Lawyers...that's were the problem lies. Most pols are lawyers after all. Ban lawyers from holding office and we will have taken a large step towards fixing things.

lol

I'd vote for you if you ran

there's no way it could turn out worse than leaving these delusional cockroaches in office.

The worst part is that even a nuclear holocaust cant kill roaches

Wake up this is the real world and if YOU ARE REALLY STUPID enough to think that the gov does what they do to protect you and your kids you are a FOOL.

I added the capitals to point out WHERE YOU WENT WRONG IN YOUR OP. No matter what your take is on this, the labelling of people as Stupid, Fools or Sheep is what usually shuts down these Sandy Hook/Gun Control threads.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion - This site is becoming like youtube with constant put-downs of people who don't share your opinions.

FOOL-TROLL-IDIOT-SHEEP and so on, is not helpful.

I think what the OP is trying to say is that this outrage over guns and the perceived importance of gun control created by recent events pales in comparison to other, more life-threatening issues that we should really be getting outraged about.

We throw a fit when something like Sandy Hook occurs, otherwise we go about our lives with no concern for the far greater number of kids that die from something as fundamental as hunger....or the common cold.

It is sad, OP, and I get what you are saying.

Obama is focused on wealth redistribution. Socialism. There will be more tax increases in his second term if he wish's to achieve it. Socialism will not work with our Constitution. The Second amendment protects the Constitution so it has to go. So guns will remain the main topic, probably through his second term. News of starving children make us turn away from it, news of guns killing children draw our attention. The media will be bombarding us with gun violence for the next 4 years without a doubt. There might be a lull before the next congressional elections. The media has become a brainwashing tool for the Democrat party & Hollywood is all in.

I agree with you, but there's not much we can do until we get our own individual countries in order. Even if/when we do, addressing these issues you've listed has to be done with care, planning, and intercontinental communication.

Telling people to "stop whining about guns", I take it you're referring specifically to the leaders, politicians, & anti-gun crowd. They exploit mass shootings to push these gun bans; despite their entire argument being fallacious & statistically invalid. In the past 30 years, some 500 people have been the victims of mass shootings in the U.S. In those same 30 years, there has been tens of millions of defensive gun uses; as well as millions of innocent people dying to due sanctions, wars & interventions. Instead of looking at the facts & priorities, they look towards any isolated event to exploit --- opportunism is the game.

This is not the time to even consider banning guns. It's time to begin looking at the problems at their root.

Kids are being slaughtered all over the world by the very people trying to take the guns off US citizens. I agree with you also though, kids are dying on a regular basis and something needs to be done about it whether its in our own countries or in the middle of Africa.
