65 foot tomato plant?

so my kid says she just read this was the tallest tomato plant ever..

I don't think that it is possible..

anyone else think this is true?

A tomato plant grown by Nutriculture Ltd., Mawdesley, Lancashire, England, reached a record-breaking height of 19.8 m (65 ft.) on May 22, 2000. The plant was grown hydroponically - which means it was grown passing nutrient solutions through it rather than planting it in the soil.

Are you even contemplating it's not? Why?

There is a tomato plant as disney world resort that produces thousands of fruit off 1 vine.

Why do you ask if anyone else thinks its true.

I've seen plenty of frankenstien 'plants' that are the result of hydroponics.

HOLY SMOKES - 65ft ?!?!?!?!

When I saw how tall this one was in this video I was already really impressed, but 65ft is almost absurd!

I wonder if they tasted good though?

I know they you really control the nutrients with hydro setups but I am still a firm believer that plants should be in contact with real soil and the complex food web that is present there.

I did some searching but unfortunately couldnt find any pics of this mythic tomato 65ft plant...

If you had the support to hold it up it could grow that way just like in the tomato cages they sell. I used to grow tomatos every year until a few years ago when they started going crazy on me and turning into some kind of mutants. I used all kinds of nutrients in the soil on the advice of my daughter's boyfriend at the time. I had to keep cutting them back because they were getting so big. Then I went away for a week and when I got back they had committed hari kari and fallen over and died. They were so big and dense all the fruit on them had rotted on the ground. It was gross. So yes, they can grow and grow.
