Ever find yourself in a pinch and don't have bread, this is a recipe that I go to consistantly. It is a denser, cake like bread that is very filling and goes great with soup, chile, etc.......

3 cupsflour; (sifted)
3 teaspoonsbaking powder; (omit if using Self-Rising Flour)
1 teaspoonsalt; (omit if using Self-Rising Flour)
1/4 cupSugar
1 12-oz canbeer
1/2 cupbutter; (1/4 cup will do just fine), melted

1Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

2Mix dry ingredients and beer.

3Pour into a greased loaf pan.

4Pour melted butter over mixture.

5Bake 1 hour, remove from pan and cool for at least 15 minutes.

Get creative with it and add different herbs, cheese, and beer.

Very simple to make bread, that I thought I would share with my fellow foodies on ATS!

Your welcome! As I said, don't be afraid to add things to it. I made a loaf today and added some sharp cheddar cheese, granulated garlic, parmesan cheese and I hydrated some dried onions that I added to it, and it came out great! Going to have it with my cheeseburger soup!

I got a beer bread mix once as a gift. You just had to mix it with beer. It was very good.

If you have self rising flour, you don't need to add the baking powder or salt....But why pay more for something that most people already have on hand?

I think I'm going to try making this from scratch this weekend. I bet it will be better than the mix I got. Thanks for the recipe!
