You are looking at it with "today's" eyes- these things rarely happen overnight, in 10,15 years who knows what the circumstances may be that could see the govt use these things.

I know the govt don't really care about killing kids whether it be in Vietnam, Iraq wherever, so it isn't a huge leap to kill American kids

Very true, but other peoples kids aren't ours. (BELIEVE me I know how that sounds and I sincerely don't want you to take that the wrong way. I'm in no way condoning killing anyones kids. Ever.) Outa' sight outa' mind is a real thing.
