I'll be first admit that I don't know a whole lot about looking at these images, but I do have a background in graphics and that looks like a hoax if you ask me. The "object" following, looks like a 1 or 2 pixel dot being animated to follow the other object. It looks completely different than the rest of the objects in the gif.

I wholeheartedly apologize if this is a completely valid sequence of images as I am not trying to discredit you or your sources, but from my perspective, the object looks to be something done in a program, rather than natural to the pictures themselves.
