Journal News map-listed guns, permits stolen from New City home, cops say

Two handguns and two pistol permits were stolen from the New City home of a man whose name and address are listed on the website of a local newspaper as possessing gun permits, police said.

The thieves ransacked the house Wednesday night, breaking into two safes on the home's third floor and stealing a third safe. The guns were in the stolen safe, police said.

Clarkstown police said they had no evidence the burglary was connected to the controversial map.

So the house was ransacked, and nothing else was stated to have been stolen from the house.

This is the second house on the map to be hit in a week. There is no way of knowing if the map was used, yet, the guns and the permit being the only thing stolen can lead one to deduce the guns were indeed the target of the burglary.

Now, we get to sit back and wait to see what horrible crime the once legal and unknown guns are used in by criminals that needed a good clean weapon with no traces back to them.

Afterall, who uses a weapon registered to them in a crime?

Law abiding people are *not* the ones gun laws will stop from preventing crimes. It's those *other* people that lie, cheat, and steal, that we have to worry about, but the government just doesn't get it.

The homeowner should strike a deal with the perp to drop all charges in exchange for his testimony that he used the Journal News release as a treasure map. This rag and Gannett need to go down.

They sure as hell should do that.

That would be great, lol. Sadly, though, it wouldn't work.

Once the law is broken, the victim becomes a witness to the state, the District Attorney becomes the victims attorney, the prosecutor.

Any deals come through the DA, and the victim is pretty voiceless in it all. Just ask any rape victim or molestation victim how they feel when the DA bargains down in a plea deal and gives probation instead of jail time.

Once any complaint is filed, it is really nearly impossible for the victim to "drop the charges". When you hear this, it is the DA that does it, usually because of lack of evidence, or something comes out where the victim was somehow not as innocent as they claimed.

Still, fun to think about!

It would be a high profile case, some lawyers might be inclined to prosecute pro bono for the publicity or for a percentage of the settlement IF they win.

The criminals escaped with two handguns, two pistol permits, cash, savings bonds and jewelry. The firearms were in the stolen safe.
