A gunman firing into a vehicle killed two people and wounded a juvenile Tuesday as they sat in the parking lot of an eastern Kentucky community college.
The campus was locked down for more than an hour while police searched the two buildings of Hazard Community and Technical College in Hazard, Ky., to ensure there was no further danger before allowing students to leave, police told a news conference broadcast live on WYMT-TV's website.
College President Stephen Greiner said that at the time of the shooting, there were probably about 30 students on campus, which is based 90 miles southeast of Lexington, Ky.
Police recovered the weapon, a semiautomatic pistol, at the scene, Hazard Police Chief Minor Allen said. He said a man who walked into an office of the Kentucky State Police in Hazard and said he knew something about the shooting was being questioned as a suspect. The man had not been charged with a crime and no other suspects had been identified at the time of the news conference, which was held about three hours after the shooting.
A male and female were already dead when police arrived about 6 p.m., Allen said. The wounded juvenile, a female, was taken to University of Kentucky Hospital, he said.
A hospital spokeswoman said she could not provide any information about the juvenile's condition without a name, which police did not release.
Police believe the shooting may have been the result of a domestic dispute, Allen said. He didn't know the relationship between the victims and the shooter.
In a statement released late Tuesday, college officials said they did not think the school was specifically targeted or that any of the people involved in the shooting were either students or employees of the college.
Conor Duff, the college's evening coordinator, said the outbreak of violence was startling.
"Everybody here's been pretty shook up," he said. "This is definitely something people around here are not used to. We have our fair share of problems, but normally this isn't one of them."
Classes had resumed Monday at the campus after the holiday break, according to the college's website, which also posted that there had been an incident and asked students to stay away from the main campus. The school called off classes for Wednesday.
The college's academic programs range from associate's degrees in arts and sciences to career-focused training in mining technology and heavy-equipment operation.

There definitely seems to be a concentrated effort by US Govt. to Take away your guns ...
This is only heading in one direction..sooner or later they will come for your guns . then its upto you....
Hopefully common sense and good will prevail in the end...

this is a blatant media tactic.

HAZARD KY is a place were people died due to gun shot wounds, HAZARD(how will that effect peoples subconcious) the day before the king start excersising his executive powers pertaining to gun control.

the bad part is that this tactic will work on many people

lets just hope the awake people out weigh the rest.

death comes for us all, if we give up are guns death and dispear will come for all of us that are not connected to machine. if we choose to be free now, our offspring will not be blanketed by the dispear that will follow the death of freedom

Every shooting is a government set up.

Has there ever been any gun related crime? Or is it all a conspiracy to take them and render you impotent?

just asking.. pretty much given up on the topic..

every shooting is not a goverment set up, people have died from guns since the first one was forged. but all the ones that have happened of late that are reported by the media, are not normal. and smells rotten. were im from people get shot every day and have for 200 plus years, but now, right before the feds make there move, there are mass shootings?, and those mass shootings are covered heavily by the media as to make sure every surf knows how dangerous guns are?. to whomever cant see this is history repeating itself, just as it always has, is lost.
. but it is just a coincidence right?

every goverment looks to disarm its surfs, and it never ends well.

i hope by chance, history does not repeat itself, its bound to happen eventually

Not every shooting is a govt. setup , but America is a country with more than 11000 gun related violence in an year..All the media has to do is highlight and sensationalize these incidents..

Man, is it just me or have shootings exploded in the US as of late. I mean, It seems like there is one posted here on ATS every week or so lately. I know shootings happen all over the world, pretty much on a daily basis(if you take the world's cases in to account.), but it seems to be all I hear about these days.

people die everyday from guns since the first gun the only reason you hear about it now is because there is a fed agenda playing itself out right now

You can't blame every multiple shooting on the gov. Those people arn't bright enough to hide all the evidence on all these shootings. Heck they can't even agree on a budget after 3+ years.

Like as has been mentioned shootings are all the rage on news channels. They are going to play them for all they are worth. And it will stay that way until Linsey Lohan steal another necklace.

are you really comparing the balance of a budget, to planned out tactical murder.

even high school dropouts can plan a hit using a ski mask and a .22 pistol and never get caught. i think you are way over-thinking what it takes to murder someone. there is a reason why murder is are oldest past time right behind eating, drinking, and sexing.

the budget takes critical thinking and the absence of corruption. murder only requires intent.

With all the carry on lately about gun control, shootings are big news.

I reckon the chances are this has been going on all the time, just with little to no media coverage.

No government conspiracy, just loons with guns getting air time.
