Over the past weekend, Defense Distributed successfully 3D-printed and tested an ammunition magazine for an AR semi-automatic rifle, loading and firing 86 rounds from the 30-round clip.

Wilson argues that the high capacity magazine ban wouldn’t just be wrong, but also impossible to enforce, as his project aims to show.

It makes me think that some politicians are going to eventually go after 3D printers. It really wouldn't surprise me. They've even successfully 3-D printed an AR15 lower. Didn't last very long but it's only a matter of time before they can make an effective one. (Link Below)

It wouldnt surprise me if you had to have a license to own one and subject the location where it is stored to random checks and searches.

The absolute absurdity of trying to regulate or ban a little box with a spring just blows my mind.

These arent highly complex components. Just some bent sheet metal and a spring.

I know, it's all pretty ridiculous. The government could flip a switch making all "high capacity" magazines disappear off of the face of the planet, and then the next criminal who wants one will just buy $1.75 worth of materials and make his own. It's a box with a spring in it. Then again, these are the same people who outlaw a plant that grows naturally in the dirt so would we really expect any logic behind it?

They would never be able to regulate that. They might be able to track who downloads the designs, but how could they ever stop people from designing their own?

See thats where knowing how to use a CAD program comes into play, you'll be seeing tons of prople going to the local colleges to learn AutoCAD or something similiar...

It really makes me want to buy a 3D printer. I have a lot of CAD experience and there's a few decent, free CAD programs out there. If you can even find an AR mag now it will cost you upwards of 45 bucks. It would be like printing free money.
