Greetings, ATS!
I've noticed a distinct air of hostility lately between folks of different nations. I know this happens from time to time, and I fully expect it to
die down eventually, but I thought a little thread sharing information about our homes might be a way to remind everyone that, in the end, we are all
just people trying to live a happy life.
So here's my home, although I no longer live there. I do plan to move back one day!
The Great Smoky Mountains in Sevier County, Tennessee
Gatlinburg, the city at the entrance to the National Park
One of the top tourists attractions in the South, Gatlinburg is known as the Gateway to the Smokies. There you can find interesting shops,
interesting people, and lots of traffic.
Cades Cove
A place very special to my heart, Cades Cove is an 11 mile loop road nestled in the Smokey Mountains. Before it was added to the National Park,
several families lived in the Cove. When you visit, you can see their old homesteads and cabins.
I used to spend a lot of my spare time in Cades Cove, hiking and relaxing. One of my favorite hikes is to Abram's Falls.
A beautiful hike, but the falls can be deadly. Only a few years ago, a teenager on field trip to the Falls drowned while playing in the water. I've
spent many a day contemplating the beauty, and danger, of these Falls.
Max Patch (a bald actually in NC)
As a child, Max Patch was relatively unknown. My family often went there for hikes, picnics, and just to let us children run loose. I always
believed I could see the ocean from the top of the bald.
Now, Max Patch is part of the Appalachian Trail. It gets more traffic, but is still a beautiful place to visit.
So there you have it, ATS. My home, the places that I hold dear in my heart.
Now its your turn. Where are you from?
