Living in a seperate compound away from Government oversight is definitely not what the founding fathers had in mind.
reply to post by babybunnies

Perhaps not. However, it may be far better than what is going on within the crooked government we have now. Destroying the 10 Bill of Rights, one by one, as the last several administrations of both parties have done, is in DIRECT VIOLATION of what our Founding Fathers had in mind.

Well, Professor....that is one direction you could take things. Another would be to simply live your life how you see fit.
reply to post by bigfatfurrytexan

You think you can live your life as you see fit? Have you read the last 10 pages of my responses? Furthermore, as I see it, doing something about it, is EXACTLY what these people are doing. Again, it is not my solution, but at least they are trying to do something about it.

Just a random thought. I wonder where all the people on ATS that have complained about how bad things are in this country have gone? Are they all in hiding, afraid to chime in, or have they all had a sudden change of mind? Inquiring minds want to know. lol!

well, and they are welcome to do it, too. its not like they need me to agree with it.

I live my life in balance. There will come a point where I obviously have had enough loss of liberty and I will fight back. Today, for me, is not that day.

I respect that. Apparently, though, for those in the OP, that day has come. Who knows what any of us will really do, when that day comes. What I do know, is that if things keep going in the direction that they are, that day will be hastened for many of us.

I am already on the citadel mailing list to receive info but I am also willing to look into forming something in my home state as well. The idea of a bunch of like minded people working together using the the values and priciples from years ago, should appeal to a lot of us. No big business BS, no political posturing, no racism, no lies, no deception. Yea, i'm in!

BACK TO THE BASICS! Live by the golden rule; "treat others the way you want to be treated".

The question remains; can people be above anything petty to accomplish something on this scale? We shall see.

and a wise choice..most home schooling is for weird indoctrination into the parents insanity
reply to post by SaturnFX

Don't make such ludicrous assumptions. We had to home-school one of our children, who we adopted from a third world country(one of many we adopted), because at the time, we lived in a very bigoted area, where anyone that was not a WASP, was shunned. Suffice it to see that our child I speak of, was the target of remarks, attacks, and worse. When we went to the authorities, the principal told us that people of our child's heritage couldn't look other people in the face, when talking to them.
Who was the weird one there?

So I generalized a bit. Usually the solution is a private school (public schools tend to have a pretty heavy pecking order and bullying situation overall). But your right. it is a ludicrous assumption..or generalization more accurately. Plenty of creepy Midwesterners do try to keep their kids away from the corrupt public and private schools so they can mold their offspring into some strange xenophobe like themselves (there have been many expose's on this..always sensational though, so arguably not as rampant as they would have you believe). Still, I take the hit..my bad.

You seem to be an extremely bigoted person, and I won't bother to respond to your bigotry any more, Have a nice life. Posters like you are why ATS used to have the "Ignore" button. Too bad they got rid of it. I won't bother to read your bigoted trash anymore.

Your a angry person..very angry it appears. I may have some pointed views and at times can be cynical and sarcastic, but overall I don't feel much for you either way. I am sure you have some views I agree with. This area not being one of em of course.
The reason why they kicked the ignore button is because its helpful to listen to opposing views in a debate forum.
As far as personally..you seem to have a self worth / high horse issue and feel personally offended if you are pointed out a flaw.

But that's fine...we are both guys..losing a debate is about as fun as getting bit by an ant...still, lets keep it classy.

I may have some stubborn views about certain behaviors
I am not a bigot

Dear ProfEmeritus,
It does indeed and your point is very valid and well made. I however think the American government, or more so the people behind it, will have no qualm in eradicating any and all resistance when they feel it is required to do so.

I know one other thing: when the day comes that The People need to pick up arms to defend our rights, those who move to compounds today will not be among our ranks.

"Right action" is only part of the equation. "Right timing" is the other part.

These people have learned NOTHING from recent American wars.

This "Defensible Neigborhood Fortress" is what generals in the military would refer to as a "hard target". Generals LOVE hard targets because it means they can blow it up with their precision targeting weapons systems.

In-other-words, from a strategic perspective, this is a horrible idea. Instead of painting big red bulls eyes on their living quarters AND putting them all into the same place (which the Pentagon could then refer to as a "terrorist training camp"), they need to do what the insurgents in Afghanistan have done: blend into the general populace.

Asymmetric warfare is the strategy they should be studying, not this pioneer days frontiersmen-VS-indians style fort approach.

So, Anarchism? Sounds like anarcho-libertarianism to me...I always felt the only way to truly be free is to live in decentralized, small (Amish or Kibbutz-sized), agrarian and trade-based communities with anarchist social policies. It meets the golden rule test: do unto others... And, it matches the constitutional ideals...it's not a problem until it affects my rights (are those really different, if you think about it?)

Outside of a zombie apocalypse, this isn't going to end well.

But it really just seems to me to be more gun-nuts squealing and building a cardboard fort because soon they might not be able to buy as much guns n ammo as they used to.

Donno..no gold border overall..but thing is, it doesn't matter...hell, I don't know what makes a gold member outside of posts to star count or some such. Worth of posts however holds no monopoly between gold, stars, karma, or any of that..its about the discussion of the topic at hand (where I was going with that last bit)...sorry, not sure why I even brought that up actually..was trying to basically say don't get offended..I am not attacking you personally...I sometimes say stupid stuff, sometimes clever..but don't think I am hammering you personally. I was actually quite enjoying this sparring match we are having overall and think you are actually doing well in giving the flip side of my discussions...so was a bit disappointed in seeing you attack me personally when it was otherwise a lively and good debate...although I can come across as abrasive.

Anyhow I am ducking out of this convo..what can be said has been said about this topic. I like the idea of tight knit communities, but I do think this specific idea is not really thought out well enough. maybe it will be one day, but for now, it just seems more a marketing plan by Remington than any well structured and pure idealistic community. But I also hammer the other city concept (name escapes me) of the polar opposite, the semi socialist contained city of sharing and progress. I find the concepts not well thought out there either...yep, totally forget the name..but idealistically I would love to see these community hubs..so long as they work both independently, but as a net whole increase the value of the nation they are in...specialization does not remove themselves from the equasion of the whole overall...

Me too. This sounds dumb as hell.

It also sounds very "cult-like". 3,500 - 7,000 families potentially not paying income taxes? (I'm not sure if they won't -- but usually this kind of crazy doesn't believe in it).

Yep, they'll be watched, bugged, infiltrated and have case files made on each of them.

If you want to change things, start from within. Don't pout, buy your own football and start your own game.

They remind me of the unpopular kids from gradeschool that started their own little clique. It didn't matter, because the popular kids still harrassed them anway.

Cool - I hope they build pretty chateaux. In 2413, they'll look back at this year and say, ah and here we have the birth where the full circle of history repeats itself and the renaissance of fairy tales with little kingdoms spread over the countrysides…

good lord has it come to this. it's like the movie The Village.

No, but people who think you can found such enclaves are.

The constitution was written to limit the powers of the government. If those in the government ignore it and give to themselves powers far beyond what it allowed them but some people stand by it, they have to overthrow the usurpers, by whatever means necessary, and reestablish a constituional governance. Or accept that governance according to the constitution is a pipe dream.
