I propose a new tax on gun purchases and gun supplies and tools. All current license cost would also be increased.

The money generated will be used to place several Psychologist in all schools at all grade levels to monitor and correct dysfunctional mental health. The psychologist would also set up seminars to teach teachers how to identify mentally unhealthy children so they can be identified and get appropriate help early in life.

This money would also be used to establish mental health centers where mentally impaired children can get direct supervision and mental health counseling until they are healthy and able to return to normal life.

This would take many years to have the intended effect because we could not stop all the crazies already out in the system now, but we could intercept the next crazies before they become mentally ill while they are young. We can correct the behaviors or possibly institutionalize them if that is only way to protect them and the public.

The gun tax and license increase would be equal to what ever it costs to fund this program and yes that might mean gun prices would skyrocket, which would reduce the amount of future gun sales.

Gun taxes would be higher on more powerful guns than on the less powerful ones, meaning an AR-15 would have a HUGE tax on it while a 38 Revolver would be much lower.

This is a much better plan than mutilating our constitution and liberty.

Why?

Why diagnose the issue? How about fixing the cause. Broken homes and bullies.

I think schools get enough tax money already without having to "raise taxes" again. Why is it that we need to "raise taxes" to get anything done? Were the hell is all the money going that they are getting now? Union executive bonuses?

How would we do that?

And then when we have a serial killer who stabs and kills multiple victims we can also start taxing knives and punish all the law abiding knife owners. How about instead of punishing citizens, we make our Government do their JOB and create a freaking balanced budget and make sure money is allocated where it NEEDS to be spent. If any normal person did their job as poorly as our elected officials, they would be fired.

Did you miss the memo? These mass shooters are mostly under treatment already and are given drugs that make them a lot crazier.

I agree with you however it is impossible to do what you propose.

Nope.
Better solution, cut some of the massive military spending and put that towards psychologists in schools.

That is if you insist tax payers pay for it.
It's like people forget that the government is already stealing most of our money and spending it however they want.

The answer is more psychologist/mental healthcare access for kids, and making some of these indefensible places safer. Definitely not gun control of any kind, and taxes and registration ARE gun control.

wait so because i like guns i have to pay for the goverment to weed out the nut jobs, can we also tax people that buy bows, swords, poison, explosives, cars and baseball bats, and anything else that can be used as a a weapon and then a nut job figures out how to beat the system anyway, and now people still die just as they have since the first bow and arrow and spear tip was made.

yeah way better idea

In the school district I went to there were school psychologists.
So no need for new taxes. They're already there, not fixing the problem.

They did not get the help they needed early enough nor enough treatment obviously. If they are untreatable then we have to put them in an institution.

How about being sure that the most vulnerable of us are protected by people who can exersize their 2nd Amendment rights if they choose to or not?.

If a guy had a bad day,and felt like going on a killing spree, and he wasn't necessarily suicidal,he would definitely consider the possibility that a good number of people may be exersizing their right to bear arms, and put an end to his shooting spree right quick like.

A disarmed poulace is a defenseless populace, pray tell, who or what would conceivably desire a defenseless populace?.

Hitler
Mao
Hussein
....the list is long of the type of scum that desires a defenseless populace.

Nevermind the ability to protect our property, families and ourselves.

Two big problems with your proposal, that tax would be unconstitutional on at least two counts.

One, it is unapportioned by your definition, as the tax would be different for every gun owner.

Second, gun ownership/defense is a right, not a privilage. And, you can not tax a right.

The answer for the anti-gun crowd is simple. Repeal the 2nd and make gun ownership a privilage and legislate that privilage. Unfortunately, the progressives know that any mention of this will get them booted out of Washington fast or worse. They won't have the backing to do what they want so they are playing on emotions . . . and it's working.

Not nearly enough and the few school counselors that exists are not currently there to seek out potential mentally ill children and get them help. We need the psychologist and a plan to focus and correct problems. The really can't do much currently.

I have seen taxes proposed on guns and ammo before. I think that'll be the route they'll take for now. But the money generated will be spent on pork projects rather than schools. That's just how DC operates.

It won't stop any criminal activity either.

And the nut jobs will just become more creative as they seek their 15 minutes of infamy.

due to black market profits & less liability,

and the recent staged massacres & barry's scripted response,

theres an all-out american rush for *uneducated, untrained, unlicensed, unregistered* carry which now dominate homes & streets.

this will not end well...

Therein lies the problem. They can't put them in Institutions against their will. The Mental Health industry needs some new tools to get these people off the street.

Correct. Its also impossible to make a firearms tax work when there are already tens of MILLIONS of assault rifles, high capacity mags and hundreds of millions of rounds of ammunition in the hands of citizens.
