The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has confirmed that the British Black Watch led Battle group is finally on the move towards Baghdad. The 850 strong
battle group which consists of the Black Watch Regiment, Welsh Queen's Dragoon Guards and supporting vehicles is also being accompanied by 40 American
Marines.

British troops have begun pulling out of the southern Iraqi city of Basra in a move north to take over operations previously carried out by US
forces.
An 850-strong battle group led by the 1st Battalion The Black Watch is moving into an area south of Baghdad seen as among the most hostile in the
country.

The move is heavily critised by many sides who believe the movement of British troops to support American troops is political and not tactical. The
main reason for this is because of the proximity of the American election.
A survey in the Guardian newspaper found that the British public does not support the troop movement, with 61% of those surveyed opposing the move.
