It is not derogatory at all - it is short for yankee - you had a yankee army and it refers to people from the northeastern US, or New England, many of whom are the descendants of colonial English settlers in the region.

Im concerned about my own government too.. But I pretty much gurantee you that most Americans are not thinking about foriegn policy, or the NWO, but are more pressingly concerned with keeping a roof over their heads and food in their stomaches..
