As flu spreads, Boston declares health emergency

" The city has 700 confirmed cases of flu so and four flu-related deaths. Last year Boston had only 70 confirmed cases.

Massachusetts has had 18 flu-related deaths so far this season, according to the state Department of Public Health."

Boston is the closest major city to me. I live a bit north of Boston and a bit east of Boston. I can say with confidence that there has been a very early start to the flu season.

We had it in my house and it was a nasty, scary bug. One of my kids had it and I was nervous as heck. 6 days straight with fevers over 102. And 102 was the low end of the fevers.

It doesn't surprise me at all that they declared an emergency.

I personally, am not a big advocate of any vaccines -including the flu jab.
But this flu bug is a nasty little virus. I say from experience.

I know it's hit pretty hard around here, too (NC). A lot of entire families were sick over the holidays (including us).

The flu “epidemic” rapidly spreading across the United States is reportedly the worst outbreak in in a decade. A total of 41 states have now reported cases of the flu, and the severe winter cold season is just beginning. According to recent flu statistics, a total of 18 children died from the flu this winter.

During an interview on Good Morning America, Dr. David Rosenberg, a pediatric pulmonologist had this to say about the increasing flu threat:

“It’s been an epidemic and there’ve been a lot of admissions from the flu, more than ever.”

I’ve heard the Spanish flu, that started in Kansas by the way, killed mostly people that vaccinated against it. I don’t have any links at the moment but I believe it.

No flu is "mild" so to speak. Although some flu viruses seem to hit people harder than other flu viruses.

I haven't had my flu shot - never had a good experience in the past.

What irks me is that nowadays it's like people expect to be immune from all disease.

This is not an epidemic. It is not a health emergency. People get sick sometimes. People might die sometimes. We all die. Until the bubonic plague sweeps the world again killing millions, people need to stop fear mongering.

Must admit next year I will get the shot, Iam sick of being really poorly over Chrimbo and my pal a few door down (he is 62) had to be taken to hospital with it last week.
I don't care what it's got in it as long as I do not get sick like I have been.
I know many of you will go

but everyone I know who did get the flu shot has been fine.

I would feel a lot better if they hadnt dug up the influenza bugs from 1918 and revived them......
Tell me did this flu start with a cracked and very sore throat, and progress from there?
I got this about a month back it lasted for a week or so....and it WAS nasty........

The experience we had was that it started with a sore throat and went immediately to very high fevers. After tylenol, Motrin, and a warm bath - temp would go down to about 102. Then creep up to 104 - 105. Was a constant battle to keep temps lower.

Resulted in a chest infection and a double ear infection for one of my children.

Had this flu and boy will it knock you on your ass. Had high fevers for days, thought I was going to go to the hospital when my fever topped 106.

I see a lot of sick people when I am going about my daily business since XMAS, going to be a nasty flu season, won't be surprised if hospitals quickly become overwhelmed.

It might not be related to the flu or flu vaccines but this is an interesting video describing how Boston University officials actually covered up an outbreak of biological weapons agent in the city.. I don't know if that could be construed as fear mongering though.

Jonathan King Professor of Molecular Biology at MIT also makes some revealing comments below (around 6:30) about the inherent dangers of the US Government setting up biological weapon laboratories in heavily populated civilian areas (like Boston) and describes some quite disturbing accounts of mismanagement within the 'industry'.
