16 to buy an airpistol
16 to drive
18 to join military
18 to buy a firearm
18 to consent
18 to buy tobacco and smoke or chew it
18 to gamble
21 to drink alcohol

Is the above correct? And do you think any of them should be changed? If so, why so?

Some of those ages are dependent on location in the US.. I think 16 to drive is pretty uniform across the board, same with alcohol and tobacco .. consent ranges from 16-18 .. or perhaps even lower in some states..

None of it makes much sense to me because age does not equal maturity OR responsibility.. I know many my age ( 35 ) who I'd not trust around a gun, and know a few nieces and nephews who are beyond their years .. I was always mature for my age.. many younger people could be trusted more than their older counterparts in some situations.

I do think placing arbitrary ages on things can be wrong for the reasons I mentioned.. I don't know exactly how I would change it though.. each person progresses through life differently ..

If we were in our natural state with no laws and just working with human instinct.. things like this would just happen when they happen.. but that's not the world we live in.

I have one.
Change the age to join the military.
You can be a trained killer, but can't have a beer afterwards?

IS it an oversight or something deeper.

You left out voting age! Fairly important in a Democracy, if such a thing still exists.

At present, you may need a few beers before you vote.

That list seems to be linked to the age a person become taxable.

That list is world wide ignored by kids.

For consumption of alcohol, 21 seems too old.

Could just be because up here the age is either 18 or 19, depending on the province.

I would think that if you're old enough for the military, you should be allowed to have a drink.

No matter what age you are,if you want alcohol you can get it.
I was 13 years old the first time I got drunk off of 3 Pabst Blue Ribbons.
Fell off my bike a few times on the way home.

I agree with the fact that military age and drinking age should be the same. But I have a brother who just turned 20 and the thought of him buying alcohol at 18-20 scares the hell out of me, WAYYY too immature.
