White House may pursue sweeping gun control changes

WASHINGTON — The White House is weighing a far broader and more comprehensive approach to curbing the nation’s gun violence than simply reinstating an expired ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition, according to multiple people involved in the administration’s discussions.

There is no may about this come hell or high water they want guns and ammo and magazine capacities gone.

Make no mistake magazine capacities, or how many rounds they hold make little difference when a psycho is shooting unarmed people.

It is also a proven fact that the first ASWB did little to curb the murder sprees of the 90s when the ban was in full effect.

A working group led by Vice President Joe Biden is seriously considering measures backed by key law enforcement leaders that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, strengthen mental health checks, and stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors, the sources said.

Background checks are already on the books that have done nothing either to curb murder sprees. Tracking movement?

How does one accomplish that short of sending BATF,police in to a persons home. There is already a national database every weapon sold has a identification number yes?

Now a person who wants to go buy a gun has to get a psych evaluation at the same time of course that is going to take months or weeks to get done.

Penalties after the fact really?

All the laws already on the books and there are thousands have not made any area gun free they know this,. They know that all laws thus far have been futile.

Seems to me with the NFA, Brady laws there should be no murder sprees, which means their laws have been totally worthless.

But hey that doesn't stop a idiotic congressman from passing a law and pat themselves on the back for a "job well done".

To sell such changes, the White House is developing strategies to work around the National Rifle Association that one source said could include rallying support from Wal-Mart and other gun retailers for measures that would benefit their businesses. White House aides have also been in regular contact with advisers to New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a political independent and an outspoken gun-control advocate who could emerge as a powerful surrogate for the Obama administration’s agenda.

So gun laws have to be sold, and by pass the NRA to push a fascist agenda, my local wal mart doesn't sell guns they haven't in years.

And Bloomberg really?

What power does a new york "mayor" whose just as fascist as the current admin have any rights to tell me or any other person who does not live in New York what I can own.

Sick and tired of idiots using the term "assault" weapon any gun can be used to "assault" but the definition of assault is to make a physical attack, anything can be used to "make a physical attack.

Bats, fists, dishes, frying pans etc. besides any further gun laws have been shown to be utterly pointless they only thing they do is punish those of us who have done nothing wrong.

Nothing is going to stop them it has been proven time and time again when those idiots in Washington want something they damn well get it.

The people of this country are nothing, but slave to the party politic.

They have been pushing us to the breaking point for years and we the people have allowed it. Perhaps with the looming collapse of the dollar, they are saying to hell with it, and the "End Game" is on!

We have complacently watched our rights and freedoms be eroded, while bickering over partisan nonsense amongst ourselves, while the whole time we were fighting amongst ourselves, THEY have been successful in the final takeover of our country!

Americans can choose to remain the cowards they are, or stand up and finally fight back!

For those in other countries who are on the cry baby band wagon to take away Americans guns, all I have to say to you is, "If you think the American Military are tyrants and murderers now, ""YOU AIN"T SEEN NOTHING YET!""!

Messing with the Second Amendment can cost you an election real quick. A democrat controlled Senate can quickly turn into a Republican controlled Senate next election cycle. It is literally political suicide. More likely there will be some Legislation but not exactly sweeping gun control. Individual states can do such a thing but on the Federal level it is bad politics.

You do realize that "bad politics" is what has gotten our country to this point don't you? Who can say if the USA will ever see another election at this point of our economy collapsing? Martial Law=NO ELECTION......

and..........let me add to that....

If you look up FEMA regional maps and the government documents on the council of governments to be implemented within the scenario designed by these criminals in Washington, you will very easily see, that they have already gone as far to even show us, how they plan on eliminating our current form of government.....

The ability to challenge the law written by those in DC may be the best ever use of the 1st Amendment.

In a state of tranquillity, wealth, and luxury, our descendants would forget the arts of war* and the noble activity and zeal which made their ancestors invincible. Every art of corruption would be employed to loosen the bond of union which renders our resistance formidable. When the spirit of liberty, which now animates our hearts and gives success to our arms*, is extinct, our numbers will accelerate our ruin and render us easier victims to tyranny. If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom—go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!

Too many people are just fine with Government telling us what rights we have.

For the common good from Ciecero

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear." — Marcus Tullius Cicero

They are traitors to the REPUBLIC.

I think it would hurt your chances of re-election even more if you didn't do anything. It's the people's "fault" that they even mess with gun control laws. They always demand that something be done to prevent the things like that shooting in CT from happening again.

Imagine a politician going on TV and giving the real answer, "Sorry that happened, but there's nothing that can really be done to stop it. All we can hope to do is to make it just tough enough so that it doesn't happen all the time".

The "gun people" aren't really helping their case either. They say things like "we need guns to overthrow the government if they get to tyrannical" or "they can have my guns when they pry them from my cold dead hands". Lemme tell ya, as a non-gun person on the outside of the whole argument, that makes me say, "yeah, lets start by taking the guns away from those people first".

Meaning make laws that punish those who don't go around killing people, They can try to legislate human behavior all for naught.

Since the power of government has not been the people for decades, centuries that power is kept and maintained by what?

The barrel of a gun so only the government has the right to that power, and yet since the founding of this nation that power has been usurped from the people, and we all know how responsible that government has been with their weapons.

There are so many reasons for the mass murders we have been seeing that i won't go into it. Mental Health is the biggest, coupled with the drugs given them and many more reasons. Guns will quickly turn into bombs if the real issues are not addressed. Anyone can make bombs. Our kids are computer savvy enough to find out how in literally 5 minutes. The real issues need to be at the forefront but are just shrugged off. We have rape gangs in high schools all over America. The desensitizing of our children is horrifying.

I am 100% with you on the mental health issue! My only problem with it is, will the government go after Big Pharm???

Not likely imo.......They will just force more of this garbage down peoples throats and then label them a "danger to society" and allow the drug dealers to continue raking in the big bucks...

These guys out there in la la land should sweep the dust out of their heads. Sure thier heads may cave in on them but whatever. Maybe most of them can fly off on their brooms.....never to be seen from again out there in la la land.

Back in 1776 these types would have been swept out of the room.

In the article is says that Obama wants to do this quickly before the pain from the last shooting wears off.

If you are progressive stop and think for a second is it alright with you to use this tragedy to influence support? The victims and families should not be used like this.

TPTB are using your fear and pain it is time to see the truth. Both sides need to stop and think because at the top it is the same people leading you with chains made up of apathy and arrogance.

In the past it has been conservatives being used this time it is the liberals. Funny thing is TPTB agenda is exactly the same for both. Also conservatives should take a good hard look and remember for the next time we are being played by are so called leaders.

Chicago has been in pain for a long long time. Apparently they know that only white people care about their dead children....so this is a leverage deal.

Now down in Texas they dont bother you about guns.....but if you kill somebody down there they will kill you back.
