As new taxes hit an already struggling American public, you just have to wonder how much more we can take.

Sometimes, watching a Democrat learn something is wonderful, like seeing the family dog finally sit and stay at your command.

With President Obama back in office and his life-saving “fiscal cliff” bill jammed through Congress, the new year has brought a surprising turn of events for his sycophantic supporters.

“What happened that my Social Security withholding’s in my paycheck just went up?” a poster wrote on the liberal site DemocraticUnderground.com. “My paycheck just went down by an amount that I don’t feel comfortable with. I guarantee this decrease is gonna’ hurt me more than the increase in income taxes will hurt those making over 400 grand. What happened?”

Shocker. Democrats who supported the president’s re-election just had NO idea that his steadfast pledge to raise taxes meant that he was really going to raise taxes. They thought he planned to just hit those filthy “1 percenters,” you know, the ones who earned fortunes through their inventiveness and hard work. They thought the free ride would continue forever.

So this week, as taxes went up for millions of Americans — which Republicans predicted throughout the campaign would happen — it was fun to watch the agoggery of the left.

That's right. Just bend over and take it Amerika. 3.50 gas, and now even more taxes. Just living is becoming impossible. Rent out the roof, food skyrocketing. We are ******.

The government has a lot of nerve to even THINK about raising taxes right now. But they did it. Yeah, CHANGE you can believe in.

It was only a matter of time.
This had to happen. And it's gonna suck.

Maybe now we'll take a good look into spending cuts.

So what you are basically saying is that obama's new tax on stupidity is affecting his minions and they are dumbfounded. Seems about right.

Yeah, CHANGE you can believe in.

"cha-ange .. . cha-ange . .. can you spare any change?" - South Park

This is the only kind 'CHANGE' Obama has in mind for you Americans. He just led you to believe it was the other kind to get re-elected.

I voted Obama, not shocked nor surprised. Ss was reduced a few years back by 2% or so I believe figured it would go back up. Also Obama can't cram anything through a republican owned house and Senate had your beloved republicans got what they wanted middle class and poor would have been squeezed to death while the job destroyers (aka the wealthy) sits back and enjoys new breaks for being wealthy already.

The 2% FICA tax holiday was always portrayed as temporary. The true cost of it has been under funding social security for the past few years though. It's not a tax increase though, it's getting rid of the temporary reduction.

I'm sure that over the next few months, the President and Democrats will be making their argument for the raising of the debt limit, with their inevitable argument that these are costs we've already incurred and they must be paid for. One thing I doubt we'll hear from them is the PAYGO legislature, which has been around for over 20 years and requires spending or tax changes to not increase the deficit. That basically means that the legislature must be self-funding or be offset by matching spending cuts or revenue increases, Realistically, that almost never happens though. If you read through the 150 plus pages of the fiscal cliff bill, the last few pages specifically exclude it from PAYGO calculations, as I'm sure most other legislature does as well. I've love to hear the media ask members of Congress why during their numerous interviews with them.

I really have to laugh at the obamabots who are upset about SS going back up. These are the same geniuses who say that SS isn't an entitlement "because I pay for it".

Why this "shocking and angry" supported news now?

I myself feel angry and shocked that for the last couple of years here in ATS we have been posting extensive information of what Obamacare was going to do to the nation and to the pockets of working class tax payers, if you thing that pay roll taxes is the only thing going up you are still heading for another surprise

And please wait for the lame ducks that still sip the Obama koolaid and wear their pink glasses in the la la land of propaganda start falling on their butts when more taxes that are already in the working since Obamacare was passed starts to hit everybody's pocket and not just the 1%.

The 1% propaganda was nothing but the brain washing used to push the Financial Cliff scam we told you so and still people bury their head in the sand rather than listening that is not such thing as politicians for the people.

By the end of the year all those that still are in the Obama la la land will find out what it is to live in a nation of all for profits screw you tax payers.

And the rich just get richer because is not such thing as taxing the rich over the working class it never was

They are after you working poor.

Oh come on. There are all sorts of real criticisms that the Obama-haters can whip-up. This just isn't one of them. The 2% payroll tax reduction was clearly labeled a temporary reduction to give people a little more money in their pockets and was scheduled to go back to its normal rate at the end of the year. It's not a 'new tax increase' and shouldn't be any more surprising than finidng your rent/mortgage due at the first of the month. The whole thing was laid-out upfront. Sheesh...

If the damn democrats and republicans could learn without bankrupting America, that would be nice...

Democrats and republicans are like children, ignorants of how the real world works, especially politics. And every single time you think they have learned from their mistakes, they fall again for the next lie...

Working as intended. I wonder when people will realize that both the left and the right work for the rich not the common man. ignorance is bliss i guess.

What are they shocked about! Had they done a little effort on their end to research, perhaps it would have been apparent that their taxes where going to go up? It seems that with the folks on the left every word that comes out of President Obama's mouth is gospel, and no need to dig further? Do not even bother elightening them about it either, because they will hoot and holler about it. Call you out with all kinds filthy words, and blistering diatribes.

I just love how they always want a conversation, and when you give them a dose of reality? That conversation turns into a screaming match and the habitual one-way street. Wake up folks and smell the coffee! There is more to all this than tax increases, fiscal cliffs, or whatever misnomers our friends in the media and Washington can come up with. We got hyperinflation to look forward to, greasing the wheels on our wheelbarrows to go buy bread, fiscal apocalypse, IOUs, civil unrest, and other unsavory propositions to expect. See you all on the way down!

I love being called an obamabot or pinko though I am neither it just goes to show that a country based on freedom of thought only applies to you if you agree with the republican party. I do not and will not until they are reigned in and understand that though the rich may fill their coffers the 99% of US will not allow them to get away with robbing US much longer.

The one percent is quite real and has been waging war on the rest of US for years. you have been blinded by partisanship and propaganda if that is not apparent to you. Given that banks and corporations have at will paid for laws to be passed while skirting prosecution for crimes committed should be evidence enough however, you are to busy combating perceived communism or socialism to realise your true enemy is the very congressman that you support.

Care to explain that to the low-information Obama voters!? I recalled the temporary reduction in rate, but how convenient that Obama didn't remind his voters during the election cycle and now the chickens come home to roost! It wasn't mentioned by the MSM in the run-up to the election OR their biased coverage of the "Fiscal cliff" talks either.

This is a VERY good lesson for the Obomabots - elections have consequences!!!

[snipped]

Most people on ATS are against both parties and they see the scum for what they are, statists. Both parties are statists and hate freedom.

Your own post indicates that you do not believe what you preach. Do you honestly think the Democrats are fighting for the poor? No, they fight for their careers and they do it on two fronts. First, they promise handouts to gain favor with voters and strive to pay for it on the backs of hard-working Americans through tax increases. THEN, just as Republicans, they pander to their special interest groups that INCLUDE those nasty corporations you refer to.

If this country is ever to return to its former glory, it going to require the vast majority of Americans recognizing that BOTH parties are morally corrupt, bankrupt and self-serving and removing them from office - forcibly if necessary. They are simply opposite sides of the same counterfeit coin!

Gee kozmo, you make it sound like everyone who voted for Obama is uninformed. I didn't vote for him (either time) but know plenty of people who did and are very well informed. This issue is political trolling, nothing more. Sure, it would be great to continue the 2% reduction forever. But we have to borrow to offset it. Much like the 'Bush tax cuts'. Are you suggesting that had Romney been elected that he would have extended these cuts? I highly doubt that. It's all BS anyway. Nothing they do or are even remotely capable of doing is much more than pissing in the ocean.

This was a temporary tax break for people and was scheduled to expire at the end of the year.

This had absolutely nothing to do with the president or the recent budget talks. Lies.....all lies...
