Switzerland village shocked as man allegedly opens fire with vintage military rifle, killing 3

A man using an old-model Swiss military rifle shot and killed three women and wounded two men in a Swiss village, and was then arrested by officers who shot and injured him, police said Thursday.

Police in the southern canton (state) of Valais said they were alerted to the shooting in the village of Daillon just before 9 p.m. (2000GMT) Wednesday

Another shooting and this time in a country that rarely sees actions of this kind. I don't know if it's the moment that what's happening is making news or all this shootings are related and people all over the world are becoming insane and out of control.

At this point (let leave the conspiracy on the side for a moment) I'm tend to think that all this violence is related to the culture of violence we experience constantly. Movies (as violent as they can get), video games (as gory, sick and bloody as can get), news (digital and written)...everywhere violence is shown as a reality or commercialism. And we get surprised that people act the way they do. Go figure...

I am pretty sure that they are not gonna ban guns in Switzerland now.

More evidence that mental health is the main issue. The man was said to have mental problems. The gun debate should be a secondary issue instead of at the forefront. The mental health of society needs to be seriously addressed.

Wow, not even one of the current issue "assault weapons" they Swiss keep in their homes?

Let's see if the Swiss are as knee-jerk mindless as so many Americans are.

Glad you brought that up. When the gun control debate was heated up in the states, Swiss gun culture was brought in comparison as the perfect example that the privately owned weapons don't kill people, People Kill People. Strangely not even a month later we have a massive shooting in Switzerland.

There's one country that comes up time and time again in the gun control debate, often used as a paradox that proves American gun laws do not have to be tightened: Switzerland.

The neutral country has a tradition of a gun in every closet, and ranks amongst the highest levels of gun ownership in the world — with estimate of as many as 4.5 million guns in a country of just 7.9 million people (few countries have more guns per capita — the US and Yemen are two).

This seems a bit convenient, after all the times I have seen the Swiss gun ownership model mentioned in response to the sandy Hook shooting in the last couple of weeks.

Could just be a coincidence but still.

Yeah, this about as much "coincidence" as I can stand, now. Something is going on and it is more than just crazy people with guns. We have had crazy people with guns---hell with standing armies...why the sudden uptick of lone gun nuts in such a short period of time? I don't think this is a coincidence anymore.

I was actually in this area a few years back and I remember the gun shops, tons of Uzis and shotguns etc. The fact that this guy was using a vintage rifle shows that gun control does work, if this was anything like the States, then it could well have been a more effective type of weapon with potentially more casualties.

I wouldn't call this a "massive" shooting. I'm sure there was a worse shooting than this in Chicago last night... the gun control capital of America.

The thread has nothing to do with America. The world doesn't revolve around United States.

Chicago last night:

One killed two wounded - shootings

This is another huge distortion around the world.

People seem to assume that America is as small and similarly populated as these other countries.

They demand the whole nation adopt strict Chicago style gun laws when Chicago is a miserable place riddled with crime. Chicago is one city in one state. They completely disregard a state like New Hampshire. Almost no gun laws and almost no crime. Less crime than any of their nations. They attempt to treat the US as one singular unit with one singular identity and the US has never been, is not now, and will never be that.

They have no perspective speaking from some little island five thousand miles away.

Doesnt matter...........hes still right........its NOT a massive shooting.........

What we have here is a simple bait............

See what happened was people brought up the Swiss, in reference to gun control............

What you did was go and look for something, look for a shooting...........and then post it to try and counter........

Your tactic is clear..............and also a complete fail..........

3 People is not a massive shooting...........

And numbers and statistics dont lie............they dont lie in Switzerland and they dont lie in the US......

Looser restrictions on gun control lead to less violent crimes with guns..........

you can try and bait all you want...........but you cannot escape that fact...........

And posting every single gun crime that happens world wide is not gonna change that

I haven't seen just how 'old' this military rifle was, but I'm guessing that once Dianne Feinstein finds out that it was a WWI vintage bolt action rifle, she will need to include those in her newest definition of 'assault weapon'.

Oh, and BAN them of course!

3 People is not a massive shooting...........

EXACTLY!

If three people die in an automobile accident 50 miles away from me in my home state.... IT WILL NOT MAKE THE NEWS!
Yet three people in Switzerland killed by a rifle.... well that is massively important to the whole world, apparently.
Gungrabbers ploy.

Officers arrived at the scene of the shooting 15 minutes later...

Nice response time. Almost as slow as the response times in the US.

...to find a man with a military rifle, which can be bought in military surplus markets, according to interim cantonal police chief Robert Steiner.

Uh-oh, military surplus loophole?

The ugly stepchild nobody wants to look at pops up again:

The Daillon gunman was a local resident who had been in psychiatric care in 2005 and was unemployed and living on welfare benefits, police said.

This is just awful. I hope the families are doing ok. This is a terrible loss for them, especially at this time of the year...

Damn crazy people. Why dont they just take their lives and just die in the woods somewhere. Why kill innocent people that did you no wrong?

So are they going to ban guns there? You know, If a shooting happens EVER it means you as a people are out of control.....No, it doesnt. I hope the MSM doesnt use this tragedy like they did with the US shooting to push an agenda. That was by far one of the most sickening aspects of modern journalism I have seen in a while. Hopefully they wont be used like those poor families were.

on a side note...
I guess 2012 was not the time for the ascension into a metaphysical paradise for humanity. We seem to be descending into hell if you go by the MSM.

Regrettably, these sort of things will happen from time to time. We need to pick up on signs of insanity sooner and get those people out of the general population.

Wittnesses are saying he was hospitalized for mental evaluation in 2005 and had severe drug problems. Allegedly he was also drunk while killing those people.

If one of the relatives would go crazy because of this unfortunate event would you say this again?

Damn crazy people. Why dont they just take their lives and just die in the woods somewhere. Why kill innocent people that did you no wrong?

Would you feel sorry for that poor relative or it wouldn't matter anymore because of the mental illness?

Realize that there's only victims in situations like this. It's not that crazy people wanted to be like that, something made them the way they are.
