Science is cool.
Way better than another stupid thread on evolution or global warming. Thanks.
Fashion trends come and go, but high heels are forever - they have been a fashion statement since sixteenth-century France and entered the average western woman's wardrobe in the nineteenth century. But why? They are often painful, uncomfortable and awkward. Yet, when asked why they endure them, most women will spout a quip about how they look or feel more attractive.
Heels also exaggerate the difference between male and female gaits, which the researchers called a "supernormal stimulus". That difference increased sexual arousal in men and causes more attentiveness in women searching for potential mates.

Wow. I always thought it was because a) it makes a woman's legs look longer, and b) it makes a woman clench her calf muscles, which makes the legs look shapelier. That's why I used to wear them anyway. Not anymore - I'm all about comfort now. So I guess I have short, flabby legs, and now a less feminine gait??? Oh dear - maybe it's time to bring the heels out again.edit on 3-1-2013 by kaylaluv because: (no reason given)
