Just got back from seeing this and it's really great. I'm a big fan of westerns, so any time a modern western gets made I'm excited. This, coupled with True Grit makes me hopeful that we might get a minor western renaissance.

Anyway, Django is really awesome. The actors are all great. I've never cared about Jamie Foxx. Ray was good, but other than that I just don't care about the man's career. He's perfect for this. After seeing it I can't imagine any one else in the role. Christoph Waltz continues to be tremendous under QT's direction. Sam Jackson and Leonardo DiCaprio are very good. There's also a ton of cameos: Don Johnson, Tom Wopat, Michael Parks, Bruce Dern, MC Gainey and a few others.

The action is over-the-top and super bloody and QT knows the rhythms of a western. So, while the violence is ridiculous, he knows when to use it and it's great. There's some awesome shoot-outs. The script has a few problems, but overall the characters are done well and there's some really interesting things going on especially in the second half of the movie.

I wasn't expecting two things: First, how the funny the movie is. QT movies always have humor in them, but this is hilarious. Christoph Waltz has excellent comedic timing, there's a really funny scene that comes out of no where and the Tarantino is good at making racism funny without being racist (I think, Spike Lee would disagree). The second thing was how great the soundtrack is. It's basically an awesome mix cd. You've got a lot of classic western score music, but there's also a Jim Croce in there, Richie Havens, some good rap, a nice kind of RnB.soul song. It works so well. My toes were constantly tapping.

All in all, it's great. Easily in my Top 5 for the year. It's an incredible capper to an amazing year of movies. Highly recommend.

Yes it is a movie, it also places cash into the pockets of hypocrites who would take my rights if they could.
I will not support this idea.
Is that enough explanation above my original response on how it relates to current world problems?

You don't find it ironic how the same people in movies using guns, making their living off of it, can then turn around and try to remove that right because they don't agree with it?

So you're saying, you're never going to see a movie that has a gun in it? I fail to see how a western movie, or any movie, has any relevance in the real world. Its a work of fiction, its creativity, its art. Enjoy it. Why does everything have to be a problem? I saw Django unchained the other night and thought it was awesome. It was a well done, funny, well acted, good story, and well written.

NO NO NO, you are making the age old mistake of believing the gun is the evil component.
I could kill a person with a gun, knife, car, pencil, or an eraser!!!
Do you know that none of these tools could kill without a human component??
I don't know how you missed what I plainly stated, and that is, I will not endorse any movie that has an anti gunning tool/ mouthpiece in it, such as these "demand a plan" idiots.
If you want me to be friendly with my wallet, you better do the same when it comes to my God given right to defend myself!
So, until there are some apologies and retractions, they have declared war on my rights, I will return the favor in kind.

You have to be one bad MOFO to kill someone with an eraser!

I still fail to understand where you're coming from. Please explain which part specifically about Django unchained that has you so offended? Who needs to apologize and for what?
