How real do you see the threat of tyranny as being?

I want to start this by saying that this is not another gun control thread. There are more than enough of those for now, so I hope we can keep this on topic.

Having said that, the most prevalent argument for unrestricted gun rights seems to be that we need to be armed in order to defend ourselves from government tyranny. The thing is that we've already lost a lot of rights with the PATRIOT act, NDAA, etc., our tax dollars have been wasted in futile, illegal, and immoral wars, we have an absurd amount of people in prison for crimes that I'm sure many of us think shouldn't be crimes, and the list goes on. But so far, none of the government's incursions upon our freedoms, aside from proposals to unrestricted access to and possession of firearms, has sparked any serious talk of armed resistance. So I'm wondering, other than if the government were to come in and try to take your weapons, what kind of situation do you imagine occurring in which you would actually initiate or take part in an armed rebellion against the government? In what kind of situation would you use a firearm against law enforcement, military, or other members of the government? How effective do you think your opposition would be, what would your ultimate goals be, and what events do you see taking place between now and then that would create such a situation?

Now, I understand that the second amendment was intended as a safeguard and that many people feel that they need to remain armed at all times to preserve a free state, even without any apparent threat, but many people seem to be of the mind that danger to our freedoms significant to enough to warrant armed resistance is imminent, and that any restrictions on their rights to obtain any weapons they choose will be preemptive to the government taking actions that they wouldn't have been able to with an armed citizenry,

Again, this thread is not about gun rights or the second amendment. I'm simply curious about situations in which you think you would actually need to invoke your second amendment rights and engage in armed conflict with the government.

Right about the time they started to see me as a subject instead of a citizen. Which we are dangerously close to now.

If soldiers ever start rounding people up on buses. Or if a family member were unwillingly taken from their home.

I really don't think they will ever have the numbers to pull off something like that.

Its a fun what if scenario though. Just like the zombie apocalypse.

Let them read. At least they'll get a pretty good idea of what not to do.

I like the US government. I think it is one of the greatest systems of government in history.
Unfortunately, virtually every member of the US government is a money grubbing criminal.
We need to fire them all and start over.

Just saying that it is not smart to share here that you are going to take up arms against the government in any case.

Be careful what you say. You are being watched. But to answer OP when I am no longer a citizen of the united states and just a body to count and a paycheck to steal from. We are on the presipus of this and those watching know it.

If you believe that your rights come from men who write constitutions, then you have to believe your rights can be taken away by men in those same positions of power.
Think about it, just exactly WHO are the "We the People of the United States" that the constitution refers to who formed the "Union"? Most patriots jump to the conclusion that it includes every American "Sovereign" Citizen, don't they? But is that conclusion correct? Where in the document is the term defined, which could support that conclusion?

I'm not asking anyone to map out their plan of attack; I'm just curious about hypothetical situations, preferably ones that you guys see as actually being likely. I seriously doubt that information gained by reading a thread on ATS would make much of a difference in the event that such a situation were to occur, anyway, and I think if there is anyone actually reading this, they already have a pretty good idea of who to watch out for.

Ok, you be the first to share then mr. Fidelis.

When will you take up arms against the government?

Take the lead, and tell em.

You may doubt it, but they are here and reading with a purpose. Info may be used to prevent such a thing from occurring in the first place.

If people only share that they are even willing to pick up arms in any situation, they are flagged, are you really this ignorant, or on a fishing trip?

That brings up another point. There are still a lot of individuals in the military and intelligence community who would take the side of the people if some kind of revolutionary action broke out. I'd wager that "TPTB" are more concerned about identifying those people, than some kids on an internet message board.

Moderators should delete this thread now. The title along it crossing the "Big Red Line"

Regardless if they are reading this or not, you're opening yourself up for a visit from Dhs...seriously

You'd wager?

You want to see proof that NSA is monitoring ATS from NSA.gov?

I'm not sure I can come up with a good answer to that , like pornography , I'll know it when I see it .

I suppose the best answer to that is when the government comes after me , or my loved ones with malice and for a reason that's patently unconstitutional . Or perhaps tries to surrender the power to govern to the U.N. or some other outside body . I guess the point I'm trying to make is that there's a lot of possible scenarios .

Not to long ago in another reply I pointed out that the very fact that there's so many millions of gun owners in this country that feel this way may be enough to keep the government from going to far . One can hope .

We don't need to do anything with the government. It is doing a real good job of destroying itself
We have to worry about picking up the pieces after it economically flops in the near future and get a new government started.
