Got sent this from a friend.
An empty house in Edinburgh.

I inverted the image to negative also.

Thoughts:

Normal:

Negative:

condensation, thats a classic pattern it makes that ive seen many times.

It mists up more in the middle because the window is colder in the middle as the glass is thinner than the walls that help insulate the edges, thus they mist up slower - but will should the temperature drop further.

What are we looking at, exactly? The condensation on the window?

Looks like a classic case of condensation from me too.

Sorry.

My 1st thought was condensation
But no other window anywhere in sight had condensation

Always worth a post.

firstly it reminded me of the pedro mummy.so i have to agree it does look like something.

but really i think it might be a case of someone who need's to wash their window.

Likely that room had the heating off or low, simple as that (also less condensation up the window since: heat rises)

I love it how all the experts can look at a photo and come straight to a conclusion and than everyone else has to agree.
Why isn't the window below showing the same condensation or even a similar pattern?
Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction. It would be nice to see another photo taken say 20 minutes after.
If it is condensation it should still be there, if it was something else it may be gone.
Dont dismiss everything blindly, not everything can be explained rationally.

I have seen this photograph before and the accompanying story stated that the room was vacant - the entire house was vacant for some time.

So the theory about condensation and heating become invalid. The photograph you have posted has been tightly cropped and the photographs I saw some time ago showed a long shot and some cropped and close ups. The photograph was taken by a person while on holiday. The house is actually built in an unusual spot and is literally overhanging water.

Is this correct? Have I recalled the correct memory or have you cropped the photograph from another photograph entirely?? I can see the outline of a person quite clearly.

Much Peace...

Yeah reason I posted it, 1st thing I thought was condensation.
But we don't know. Nobody does.
Guesswork is best we can do

I posted in the state I got it. An empty house where my mate lives.
All I did was invert it also. I didn't alter the picture in any other way

Thanks

Why would the heating be on at all in an empty house?

Unfortunately not much of a shape to work with for me to make a judgment either way. Too bad the photo wasn't closer or more clear.

perhaps there is something on the window that is making it opaque, there seems also to be a secondary rectangular shape in the bottom half on the pane.

The picture also looks softened, so it's possible that is reflections form across the street. The lower window appears to have just that, although faint.

I don't think its condensation on a window.
in my opinion it looks more like a dirty faded screen to me.

The windows need a wash.

Obviously, the landlord hasn't got round to cleaning up after the last tenants left.

At the bottom....the two arms, or whatever they are, have matching features.
