I have just had a thought, if we assume that the parents for whatever reason is unable to discipline the child then whose responsibility is it?

It is not so much about that. You are back on the responsibility thing.

It is ALL of our responsibility. Definitely not the cops though. That almost never works out.

ALSO it is NOT always about discipline and reward.

There are underlying problems that MUST be addressed. They are so severe that a 10 year old psyche can not handle it a lot of the time. I am not talking about mental illness either.

btw one day he will get locked up. They will tell him it's all his fault and responsibility. This will NOT work. He will pretend to go along with it, but he knows the truth because he lived it and that is not the truth.

IT IS OUR FAULT. SOCIETY.

I have to agree, there is no 'imitidation' power as they
grow up, they are taught get in trouble and no games...
not the same as get in trouble and get a woopin so bad
you wont sit down for a week...

i still spank my kids when they need it, which is very rare,
but there are times when it is called for.

My son is older, teen age years, and as all kids his age
he likes to push his limits, while i feel he is a bit old for
spankings, he is kept in line by a simple thought.

He get's out of hand and get's mouthy and pushy and i remind
him of my open invitation, which is "any time you feel froggy Jump
little man". He is at the age where he thinks he is tough and strong
and at times i have to remind him that its all in his head.
Shoot 90% of the kids now days would never of made it growing up
like we did, stand one on one and hold your ground is a concept they
cant grasp. Now days instead, they revert to guns and knives, which
to me is cowardly.

I had a foster daughter years ago, who was removed from her last
home for standing over the foster parents bed with a butcher knife one
night. It was bed time and she followed us into the bedroom and
was wound up and talking and came out and asked what we would do if
the same situation happened to us.

My response to her was simple, i told her "you better stab me before i
get off the bed, and you better be running when i get up from that, because
i would knock you out cold for even being in the bedroom with a knife like that"
She was shocked at my response, and came back with "But im a girl" to which
i told her, there is no sex when a person has a weapon, they are fair game.

Needless to say we never had any issues with her, well dangerous isses anyway. *lol*
She lived with us until she moved out on her own and now has 4 girls of her own.
Still has her problems, but defiantly changed her path in life and is doing great considering
where she came from.

You are right. And a very good man if what you say is true (and I believe it is). Thank you for being a decent human being, there are far too little in the scale of things.

edit: I am still up in the air about spanking kids. I have patted mine on the but but never spanked to hurt. She always looks shocked that I even did it. The shock effect handles it plenty, no pain necessary.

It is so freaking cute. I love her to death.

Maybe there is a way to introduce birth control into illegal drugs?

I think if you raise them right, its the act that dose the most
damage, not the actual spanking its self.

I have never hurt the kids or left marks, but the mental power
and idea behind a spanking i think has much more effect than
the actual act.

my kids now, (step kids) were totally diffrent when i moved in
years ago, they had no respect for their mom and did prity much
what they wanted because they knew she would not back things
up. She would threaten things all the time, but i can only think of
one time she actually did anything.

I am kind of the opposite, i let them get away with things to a limit
but when that limit is reached they get warnings to stop or change,
and if that is not done, there are consequences.

My son was doing ok in school, then his grades started to drop,
he got a warning on one grade card and was told to bring it up
by the next, the whole time his mom rode his butt, next report card
was worse, So the next day he went to school, and when he got home
he found his room different, all his video games, the system, the hand held
games, his computer and everything like it was gone. He was told when
his grades come up he can have them back. They have improved a little
but he has one grade still not up to level so he gets another report card with
nothing fun, or at least in his opinion.

My favorite line from my foster daughter one day, she was being a pain
that day and just trying to cause problems, and was arguing, so i cleaned
out her room as well except for her bed and pillow and blanket, and she
came back with what she though would really hurt me, which was
"Your dont matter your not my real dad" *lol* the look on her face
when i responded was priceless... i told her, "Thats right, im not your
real father and dont you ever forget it." *LOL*. Threw her for a loop
she did not know what to say to that.

So far i have 5 kids i claim, none biologically mine, but i dont think that
makes any difference, at least not to me. Family is much more than blood
and bone.

Although it will bite you in the butt at times, got a letter a few weeks ago,
seems my ex, who fooled around on me and got pregnant by a guy, and
after the shock, i stuck by her and supported her and lil man for 2 years
till she decided she was gay and moved out, is now trying to collect child
support. Now the sad part is about a year after lil man was born, the guy
in question wanted to know for sure and did a mail in DNA test, which she got
a copy of the result's, so there is no question as to who the biological father
is, but yet she is going after me for full child support. Some times i just
dont understand people... But all we can do is try to make the best
choices at the time. Which i know i can look back with a clear conscious and know
i did all i could and did the right thing. (the biological father has yet to do
anything for lil man, not one diaper nothing at all.)

*LOL* now there is a idea.

I always though if the govt was serious about this so
called war on drugs, they would just produce a batch of
their own to release on the streets that had a compound that
would turn the skin blue...

then the cops could just wander the streets looking for the smurf's
and end the drug problem...

kind of hard to deny you did drugs when you look like papa smurf.

I can tell you area Christian. If I am wrong about that I would be surprised. Most non-Christians that don't know about Satan and demons freak when they encounter their work.

I really like the response "That's right, I'm not your real father and don't you forget it". Cracked me up.

You are right, bloodline is irrelevant. We are God's children, and all of our Father is the same.

well, you're a far better person than i. i would have either a) snapped my foot up hard enough to shatter his jaw or b) disarmed in in such a way he would have lost his trigger figure.

the sheer stupidity of people and the more pathetic way in which children are growing up is disturbing. i just hope the collapse of America will come sooner rather than later and will lead to better things. this is very unlikely, but i hope.

You are worse than him! knowing it was a toy gun. I will not reply to you again.

Nah. Throw it in the food only the poor purchase and eat. Make the healthy alternatives unaffordable.

Oh, wait...

Someone has got to teach this kid a lesson. Obviously the parents aren't going to (It shows they haven't yet at least).

And besides, better a little ass kicking now, then before this kid tries that crap on some real thugs and gets shot in his face! Just saying.
Id like to see some kid pull that around my neck of the woods... Sadly enough, around here, the 10 year old would have had a real gun.

The real thugs would not respond the way you just said. Trust me I knew a lot of them growing up. They would have laughed and got him to his parents then maybe asked if they could help with a father figure.

You must be talking about the fake thugs.

Man, what kind of thugs are you talking about?
Yeah the father figure aspect of it would be introducing him to the gang and getting him in.
Are you from the US?

"A Clockwork Orange" seems more prophetic every day. I'm so blessed not to have any kids to watch the world devolve into trashy behavior and BS macho posturing.
