Yep...it would certainly ruin the victim's day. And you'd get a good headstart while they re-assemble themselves one quark at a time.

Of course, interfering with the Higgs field is not a simple matter. And that's saying something, 'cause removing all non-Higgs bosons from an area isn't exactly a piece of cake either.

seeing as how it gives properties to everything that it affects.. i would think that shielding anything from it might have disasterous results.

Maybe magnatism (just an ignorantly preposed example) is the product of a boson field disturbance, but this is way beyond my experiance. If we could somehow replicate the proterties of magnatism with an artificial material maybe we could understand better how the field is being distrubed and if other structures could tease out other effects.
