There doesn't seem to be an exact number of deaths by firearms but the number 9,000 is being bounced around right now so needless to say you are 250x more likely to die from anything other than guns. Which is why billions are being spent focusing on regulating them.

below is information from a CDC report - the full text you can find here

www.cdc.gov...

Mortality experience in 2009
• In 2009, a total of 2,437,163 resident deaths were registered in
the United States.
• The age-adjusted death rate, which takes the aging of the popu
lation into account, was 741.1 deaths per 100,000 U.S. standard
population.

• Life expectancy at birth was 78.5 years.
• The 15 leading causes of death in 2009 were:
1. Diseases of heart (heart disease)
2. Malignant neoplasms (cancer)
3. Chronic lower respiratory diseases
4. Cerebrovascular diseases (stroke)
5. Accidents (unintentional injuries)
6. Alzheimer’s disease
7. Diabetes mellitus (diabetes)
8. Influenza and pneumonia
9. Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome and nephrosis (kidney disease)
10. Intentional self-harm (suicide)
11. Septicemia
12. Chronic liver disease and cirrhosis
13. Essential hypertension and hypertensive renal disease (hypertension)
14. Parkinson’s disease
15. Assault (homicide)

• In 2009, the infant mortality rate was 6.39 infant deaths per 1,000 live births. -

Many of those diseases are direct results of poor diets, and unhealthy lifestyles so when that evidence is taken as a whole the thing that kills most Americans is obesity,

So basically, we don't get enough exercise, smoke too much, drink too much, eat too much junk food, eat too much food in general, and atop all that we spend far too much time worrying about all of the above and more to be too stressed out which occasionally even leads to a blow out.

Does that about sum it up?

Thanks for promoting the need for Obama Care while trying to defend Americas disgusting obsession with gun ownership.

In other words, "proceed governor".....

That definition of America brought a tear of sadness to my eye because it's disgustingly true. Rememeber America eat up because you know no one else is starving world wide.

True they can but dont in terms of homicides.

I created a similar thread here:

www.abovetopsecret.com...

In 2011, murders committed with guns accounted for 8,500 deaths in 2011.

Hospitals accounted for the largest number of accidental deaths: 200,000.

I'm not the least bit surprised. Most of the U.S. is rural areas, and small towns. People die every day around the area where I reside, yet it is rare for there to be a gun death.

I am just curious as to why the hell you're quoting figures from 2009?

None of these listed, though, can overthrow a tyrannical government.

Food for thought.

Which is something that OP overlooked, even though it is #15.

So let's just go ahead and add that 1 to the list also.

Accidents, suicides, assaults, & homicides can include guns.

'Death by gun' isn't actually a cause of death, because it is not specific enough. There are various actions which can result in a gun related death. At least 4 of the 15 causes, could be from guns.

Appreciate the sentiment, but tyrannical governments have military equipped with tanks, fighter jets, bombs, helicopters, drones, body armor, unlimited ammo...you get the picture.

I think it is pretty sad that number 10 is Suicide.

Pretty sad....

Tanks can't shoot unless someone pulls the trigger. Jets can't fly unless someone is piloting.

Not every member of the military is a mindless drooling moron. That category appears to be most apt in the civilian leaders.

Why the focus on guns?

Theyre a tiny part of the equation when talking about causes of death...

Interesting that the rate has been decreasing since Obama took office.........

I can't answer that.
Maybe you should ask the person who started this thread.

It's been declining since 89-90. You can stop thanking Obama for things he didn't do.

1960-2010 but you get the idea.

I mean by the government with regards to stripping us of our rights when they account for such a small % of deaths.

Of-course understanding the fact that "guns" arent capable of doing anything. No more than a knife, baseball bat or any other inanimate object.

Very straightforward concept: people/individuals are to blame for violent behavior.

A massive heart attack and/or debilitating stroke is not the intended effect of Ice Cream. It's made to taste good on a warm summer day, to put a smile on a kid's face, and to eat off your naked wife's bottom on your anniversary. But some people over indulge and a few deaths result.

Just as guns and their private ownership among citizens are not intended to be used in crimes, it does indeed happen sometimes.

Both result in death.

Neither should be banned. And the only way to make sure your ice cream is never taken away from you is to keep your guns from being taken away first.
