We are civilised here in the UK, but you lot in the US still think that your living in the old wild west where the gun is law. Your right in the sense that anything can be used as a weapon, but not all kill like guns do.
There is only one thing that spoils America and thats the goddam Americans, I will gladly sit watch and your country fall apart.
Most Americans cant read or write but yet they can own a gun, who looks stupid now America.....?
Go get em disarmed Obama, they dont deserve the rite to bear arms!!!
You will find most of the dumbasses at trailer parks getting off with their brothers or sisters!!!

First, there are even better stories of insanity:

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Let's go down the current list as you really may not know the facts:

1) We border a narco state. After decades and billions we cannot secure our borders and there is Zero political will to do so. Drugs and People flow into the US like the Mississippi River. Anyone can find illegal dope here, same with weapons. Ban weapons and we the citizens are screwed. You are not banning anything from the bad guys because they don't care about the law!

2) Your on an Island as the always used examples of Japan, Australia, and New Zealand - we are not as stated in #1.

3) We also have massive, massive gang problems (25,000 gangs nationally - that is gangs not gang members) and they are armed to the teeth violent thugs. Estimated Number of Gang Members is 750-800 thousand a couple of years ago. 74% of murders in the US is gang related.

www.disastercenter.com...

For various reasons the total number of gang related homicides appears to be about 11,500; while the total for the rest of us is about 3,000. Essentially, then; the percentage of gang related homicides in the United States is about 74 percent – and rising as the number of murders among the general population declines.

For those of an analytical turn of mind, that means the homicide rate among law abiding Americans is about 1.0 to 1.1 per 100,000 population.

www.nationalgangcenter.gov...
health.usnews.com...

4) Criminals will have weapons period, especially here. They do not follow the laws so laws will do nothing except disarm US the law-abiding citizens. In other words... OPEN SEASON!

5) I heard the idea of "long sentences" or "life sentences" for possession of a firearm. Your own police in the UK are against that because the criminal has nothing to gain by surrendering (they will go down shooting) and it will cost cops and bystanders lives.

6) Armed populace reduces overall crime period.

25 years murder-free in 'Gun Town USA'
www.wnd.com...

The El Paso Miracle
reason.com...

7) I don't care what people in other countries "want" us to do. We have to live here. I always amazes me WHY the Europeans, Aussies, Chinese, Russians and other disarmed victim peoples are so interested in disarming the US citizen, why, do you guys plan on relocating here? Hell, why don't we adopt Mexico's strict gun policy... there are no gun murders or gang violence there at all! Great idea! See how that is working out (and by the way you guys talk on the boards, aforementioned seem to have a zealousness in their wish to see us disarmed victims in my opinion, as though they can't wait to get some joy as our crime rates, rape victims, and body counts skyrocket and we cannot fight back), under the boot of criminals and corruption... No thank you. It is kind of like the "Chamberlain appeasement" where they think it is OK if you are looted, raped, mugged, burglarized, and trodden upon as long as someone doesn't die get shot and die (usually worried about the criminal !). Here, we would rather chance death than live "safer from death but trodden upon" like you do. We shoot back. The Brit argument usually is "There is nothing in my house worth taking a human life" (The victim helpless mentality) while the US reality is "There is nothing in my house worth loosing your life for criminal scum" and if you really want to chance that by endangering my family you will be met with force.

8) The United States Supreme Court has repeatedly and consistently held police have no constitutional obligation or any other legal obligation to prevent citizens from being victims of violent crime. This alone speaks volumes... and they are chopping police roles everywhere to boot.

Police Do Not Have a Constitutional Duty to Protect Someone
www.nytimes.com...

9) We are on our own, if you live here that is obvious unless you are blind or living in fantasy land.

Enter At Your Own Risk: Police Union
detroit.cbslocal.com...

Alderman to citizens: Arm yourselves now
business.highbeam.com...

10) Bottom line, I (and half the country) will consider disarming myself only when the TONS and TONS of illegal drugs and people flowing into the country is close to zero and it is so safe the police are not armed like soldiers. Until then, I will secure my loved ones and property.

Now, given this REALITY of how it is, would you be protecting your wife and children with a baseball bat or golf club when there is an overwhelming chance a criminal aggressor will be armed with a firearm??

And still, no one seems to notice or even care this story is 7 years old and never came to pass.....

Maybe I should dig up some articles from the 1930's and discuss whether the US is right in banning alcohol....

No one seems to have noticed the article was about knives with long sharp points rather than rounded points. Long sharp points aren't needed for cooking. This is why your eating utensils don't have sharp points too.

With a long sharp point it is all to easy to kill someone with a single strike in the heat of the moment.

People will blame anything but their own morality and behaviour. It is no solution to ban large kitchen knives when violence is allowed to thrive on people's bible today (the tv and cinema). Evil leads to misery and death and good leads to life and peace. Worshipping the created things leads to the bizarre thinking that evil can be embraced and that it will produce the benefits of good just because we relabel it good. And so we attempt to alter the misery and death that follows evil because we mistakenly believe that good will come from what WE decide is good. So we look to banning the knife and gun which is picked up by these murderous folks instead of tackling what CREATED THAT MURDEROUS INDIVIDUAL. We glorify alcohol, drugs, sex, porn, and violent images and words on today's "bible" then attempt to remove guns and kitchen knives because all of this societal evil which we've relabeled as "good" is producing the consequences of misery and death and not the peace and life that always follows true good.

I live in the UK and am American so what I'm seeing in both my countries is the same warped thinking - man is thinking that if he bans the implements used often in killing that he's going to somehow stop the lust for murder. The UK is seeing a rise in knife murder not because guns were banned but because the underlying population is losing obedience to Christ in favour of paganism and heathenism. The lust for murder and violence is the issue not whether or not guns and kitchen knives are available. Kids roam in gangs looking to destroy bus shelters and phone booths just because it's "fun" and they are "bored". That is the next generation fast becoming completely dysfunctional adults hell bent on their own destruction. Many reject any and all authority, and seeped and stewed in violent images it's a dangerous cocktail.

Please, whatever the reason for crime (and it is actually falling, not rising by the way, despite a growing population) it has nothing to do with Jesus or people's belief in a flying spaghetti monster.

Point of fact - crime in London reached epidemic levels in the 19th century, with muggings, stabbings, strangulations, rapes and opium dens yet the nations belief in Jeebus and his spaghetti father was sky-high. Explain that.

This news made me laugh so hard....
So we have this;

They argued many assaults are committed impulsively, prompted by alcohol and drugs, and a kitchen knife often makes an all too available weapon.

Yep, ban the KITCHEN knives...."cough, cough", because the amount of readily available alcohol and drugs aren't the problem, the problem is the knife I use to cut my bread, my chicken, my beef etc.
This article must be some kind of a joke, coming from the BBC, what can you believe?
A team of SCIENTISTS went for the banning of kitchen knives? I can't believe it.
Oh well, there's always hammers.

Hardly scientists - it was a bunch of A&E doctors who spoke to a handful of chefs then put some statistics together, called it a report then published it in the BMJ.

They were roundly shot down from pretty much every facet of society in 2005 when they published the report and now are barely remembered except for a giggle.

These are the people who would have you banned from doing anything that might be harmful because they think they know best having worked in an A&E.

Well said mate.
It's just too ridiculous. By that logic, we should ban everything, even ourselves from breathing.

This is just a kitchen knife.

But this is an assault knife.

I think in responsible legislation, we should just look to a ban on assault knifes.

They are the real killers here.

Oh, and my dad can beat up your dad so

Don't forget, about 2 years ago they were again trying to ban glasses in bars. Those blokes couldn't be trusted with glass, so they want them to drink from sippy cups.

Fresh call for alcohol glass ban

Beer served in a glass bottle! Oh the horror!

Protectionism & the nanny state gone wild...

Unfortunately, America IS already heading down that road. 'Big Gulp' soda ban anyone?

Even though I definately agree with the fact that kitchen knives are very dangerous.... and easy to get hold of.... they are mainly used for cookery!!

At least they have a proper use unlike Guns which are only used to kill!!

Knives are needed in the kitchen otherwise we wouldnt be able to cut our food....

Having said this... being stabbed is a nasty way to die... never had it done to me obviously but i can feel the pain when I read about it....

But yes.... we are all only a few centimeters away from being stabbed!!

No one was trying "to ban" anything. Some Doctor spoke about it in a conference, that doesn't mean anything. We're still using pint glasses and glass bottles in our Pubs.

I could go to a conference and talk about banning breathing but that does not mean, in any shape or form, breathing is "going to be banned "or "trying to be banned".

I'm pretty sure, if I dug around on the web, I could find stories of similiar things being said by busy-body idiots in the USA. Doesn't mean jack though.
