This is very disturbing, although it might as well be true. Now at the moment I live in Europe and things are a little different here. Besides kids don't wear those bracelets. Any way, I'm sure that now a days its becoming more normal and accepted for kids to have sex with 13 or even 12. This of course a terrible development in society. The reason I'm so sure of this is because once I was at a friends and we were sitting at the table with her little sister. The were talking about some kids that I didn't know so i wasn't really paying attention. All of a sudden, they start talking about this girl they knew. And then her sister starts telling us about that girl giving some kid a hand job (sorry if this is abusive language) in the middle of their recreational are. That really shocked me, at that I age I was thinking about paint ball or skateboarding or something but not really about sex. At least not in that way.

I cannot believe that we have to worry about our Junio High Age kids wearing these bracelets, shouldn't they still be thinking about Matchbox cars and Barbie Dolls!?!?

These bracelets are harmless, I doubt these kids are actually going through with the supposed meanings...

But they are, at least in the community I live in. Which is a small community where crime is low and kids go to church.

I am 26, so I was in Junior High about 14 years ago. That would be the 90's. It must be much different now than it was then. I was concerned as to whether I was going to be able to cheer at the next basketball game, not worrying about which player I was going to have sex with.

Hmmm...that makes us about the same age...

Not that I knew a lot of kids that were having sex in middle school...but that is definately the time when kids start messing around sexually...so who knows.

I do remember at that age you are heavily influenced by your friends more than anything else...hopefully these kids are aware that these bracelets shouldn't be taken seriously...

maybe I'm giving these kids too much credit...

I have 4 daughters so hearing about these sex bracelets makes me a little nervous. Thankfully the oldest is only 6 so I have a little bit of time before I have to deal with middle school fads.

I think the best way to keep kids out of mischief is to keep them busy. If they start an afterschool activity like swim, gymnastics, dancing, etc. when they are young and they continue with it throughout high school it gives them a focus and a purpose, not to mention it keeps them so busy they are too exhausted to get into too much trouble. It also does wonders for their self esteem.

My plan is to keep the lines of communication open and to make sure my girls each have something they are involved in that they are good at. I know this won't eliminate the risk of teen sex, but I think it will help reduce it.

Make sure you know who your daughter is dating, and who she hangs around with same for boys.

The jocks usually tend to pressure the "innocent" girls into sex, and usually if your son is hanging around with a girl who you think is slutty by the way she dresses chancges are she is most likely not too clean. Take this from someone who has hand witnessed alot of this crap.

I could write a book for parents on all the tales of sex,drugs and other mis adventures I have heard and seen and nearly was subjected too.

This is one of the BIG reasons I homeschool my daughter. The problem isnt the kids, its the parents. The majority of parents today would rather plop thier kids in front of the TV all day instead of interacting with thier children and providing a good since of stability for them. Where do you think kids learn about sex today? Ill tell you. 2 places. the TV, and thier friends at school. The parents need to wake up and see what schools are doing to thier children. There are no morals in most schools. Its like hearding cattle to the learning center. If you dont want your kids to wear these braclets, then dont let them. If you have done a good job at being there for your kids, they will respect you enough to listen to your advice.

The best way to prevent a girl from engaging in early sexual promiscuity is by building her self confidence! Beginning in the middle school years is when female self-esteem takes a huge drop.

If she has high self esteem and a good sense of self, then she is less likely to give into peer pressure...

Like you said keeping them busy with sports especially would be beneficial since it has the ability to boost self confidence.

This is some good advice that I will heed! My daughter turns 6 in december, so Im no t quite haveing to deal wiht the loss of confidence that seems prevalant in many teen girls. But when that time comes, I will do all I can to empower her with self confidence and a strong will. I think Im on the right track with her, as she already has an indominable will

Sounds like someone's fantasies are getting away from them to me. Kids wear these at the Junior High here, but to think they would be that casual about sex is rediculous. I remember the talk about sex when I was in junior high, and this sounds like the same type of thing- wishful thinking for the vast majority of kids.

The second link above explains what happened when the kids were asked about this 'sex game'. The people got laughed out of the school. Relax, folks, it ain't real.

Besides, if they are banned, they'll just adopt something else... Better to simply let the fad die of it's own accord. Banning them just increases the "cool" factor... Besides, then they'd just use rings, tassles, whatever....

As usual it all comes down to lack of parenting in this country. Mommy and daddy are too busy out working to pay off their brand new house, 0% financed brand new cars (they are such a good deal), RV and maxed out credit cards to actually get involved with their kids. What teach my own kids???......isn't that the schools job?????

Unfortunately as it turns out any moron has the right to have kids and not raise them to be responsible adults. Most americans spend more time planning their summer vacation than they do planning how they intend to parent their children. It is a unforgiveable and is a major reason why the US has fallen so far from grace.

Newsflash to all parents: your children could not care less about your shiny new cars or fantastic house.......they want time and attention!!!! Invest in your kids, your marriage and your family NOT your lifestyle.

Here is a simple idea...... get rid of your cable, get rid of your second/third car, get rid of your RV (why not rent one when you actually want to use it???), pay off and chop up your credit cards and give the greatetst gift available on earth to your own children.....have either mommy or daddy be a stay at home parent and raise your family as God intended. Or have both parents work part-time so both parents can share this unbelievably rewarding experience of being there for their kids.

Here is a hint for any parents thinking about doing the right thing by your kids: start young. Ever heard the saying "give me your boy until the age of seven and I will show you the man"?? Between birth and seven your kids' personality and sense of self worth, discipline, respect and responsibility is shaped.

Try investing in your family today and maybe your precious little angel won't need to perform oral sex to get the attention from the opposite sex she never got from her dad.

Yes yes I know it is not the parents fault right? It is the schools fault, it is tv's fault, it is because your kid has ADD. This country needs a reality check quickly.

Banning these bracelets is completely missing the point. It will do no good at all. I mean, if they are passing out condems in school, how can they ban the bracelets? They sorta go hand in hand. You can't encourage kids to have protected sex, then tell them they can't make a game out of it.

Look, like all things that are deemed immoral, the solution lies at home, with the parents, guardiens, or whoever is in charge. Don't ban the bracelets, just send home a letter to the parents telling that their child is wearing bracelets that have a sex related game associated with them, and they wanted to make sure they were ok with that. I think that if the parents are made aware of the problem, and do nothing about it, then the responsibility lies on them.

Exactly! That was the point I was trying to make earlier. There will always be something of this type going on in our schools, where your kids go, from "friends" it's the responsibility of parents or the guardian, to keep communication open, talk to your kids and stay involved!

My parents talked to me and were very involved in every aspect of my life. Again I say I was just too stupid to listen which is why I now have an 8 year old son (will be 9 next month) and I am 26.

Kids don't care, they don't listen to their parent's and parents get so fed up that most of the time they give up. If you live in a big family they have so many things going on at once, that one child can be overlooked.

We need to start enforcing things in school. The school has to be able to help the parents out by being involved with the kids. Enforcing rules that the kids must abide by.

Actions such as sneaking into the auditorium to have sex on the stage should be punishable. These things happen, ask my brother who is known as The Flash, and is still famous among the schools today.

Kids are at school 8 hours a day. Teachers have to start accepting the fact that they have a role in the raising of these kids. My kids teachers see them more than I do. They leave for school at 7 and they don't come home till 3. I have a full 5 hours a day with my kids during the week, the rest of their time is spent in school. It needs to be a community effort. Back in the day an entire community would raise the kids. We could run across the street to the neighbors and get a snack or watch TV and the neighbors never minded a bit. You can't do that these days.

These bracelets signify the control that we are losing, and something needs to be done about it. You see something and you can't ignore it you have to act on it, and find a way to deal with it. Ignoring it will only make matters worse.

I think that in this day and age, parents are trying to get down to the childrens level and be their friend, or buddy, which is good and all, but they are leaving out the other side of parenting. The rule enforcing, disciplining, heads of the house part. Parents are so worried about their kids not liking them that they are afraid to enforce their rules. What does that teach them? It teaches them that the kids can do what they want, because mom and dad care more about being liked by their kids, than being respected. I am 26 and have a 10 month old son. You better beleive I am going to do whatever I can to be my son's friend and enjoy every moment I can with him. But, I will not think twice about enforcing rules at the risk of being unpopular with him.

I absolutely agree, teachers should not take the role as parent, but there has to be communication between parent and teacher on these kids, and their is to some degree, but not nearly enough.

I also agree with the fact that parent's are trying to be their kids' friend. That is not acceptable. Kids need to learn that there are rules and they have to be aware that their parents will enforce these rules. Kids lack discipline these days. The world is a scary place.
