If they'd started investigating in September, then it would be understandable that they believed someone would take advantage of the movement for sinister purposes, but no - they'd started in August, when few had even heard about it.

You never know who the 'bad'guys are...
For instance, last year I was in Las Cruces, New Mexico. OCCUPY was mainly a bunch of ner-do-wells and kids over in the park. Word around town they were being paid to be a pain in the a** and trash the area.
However, one day, over by the mall there was a demonstration at a large bank. I drove around the block as it was breaking up. The group of five people all got into three brand new, identical SUV's (rental vehicles?). They all had pro-Obama and liberal cause stickers and plackards in the windows (pro-gay, abortion, etc). Who is putting out money to support trouble makers like this?
OCCUPY is and was a tool of the Obama crowd...at least in Las Cruces, New Mexico...

If you don't think the financial district in MANHATTAN is under constant surveillance you might be naive.

If anything OWS only emboldened the cronies, if that's not a signal they're getting away with their cronyism then IDK what is...

The government needs to stop negotiating on creating more crony outlets for people to exploit and start negotiating on stopping them instead.

The 99% likely have no shot at fixing this mess, it's up to that slim portion in the 1% to do the job for us and themselves as well.

So? Just because your perception is that in August very few had heard about Occupy doesn't make it so. It's the job of the Intelligence\Federal Community to be ahead of the curve on things so reaction does not become the norm.

Absolutely.

The top 1% are not the government, they are the big business owners and THEY'RE cronies, the Wall Street guys. Lobbyists are the ones who truly decide what laws and amendments thereof get passed. Everyone has a price so to speak and if you think politicians are different, hell.. most of them already sold they're soul to get elected anyway.

The 1% will escape when the dollar begins to collapse. They have value in gold & silver reserves, yuan reserves in Swiss bank accounts not to mention all the material # they own abroad.. islands and yachts and mansions in Honduras.

To quote Carlin "They dont give a # about you, they dont give a # about you.."

Dont put much faith in there being a handful of do-gooders in the upper 1%.

If they kept an eye on every movement that might turn big, then they would need a lot of eyes...

Once you give the government the option to control what and what isn't a terrorist, they become power hungry. As if they already aren't already...

Or rather then being concerned it might turn big they were watching Occupy because it would have been a great way or cover for a lone wolf to trigger an act of mayhem.

1. Large groups of transient people ..Check
2. Localized to an area, normally near key tactical targets. Check
3. Varied structure or control mechanisms in place within that crowd. Check
4. Easy to blend in or get lost in the Occupy crowd. Check..

If I was a gonna cause mass chaos I would have been salivating at the prospect of leeching on to Occupy to achieve my goal.

The point is, it was still August then. How did they know this would work out? How did they know the crowds would actually gather and pitch up tents in Wall Street?

This is the headline you're going to use?
This is ATS, why not go with the most sensational, outrageous headline you can think of like everyone else does?

Seriously though, the FBI were investigating plans to assassinate the leaders of OWS with suppressed sniper rifles.

Planned to gather intelligence against the leaders of the protest groups and obtain photographs, then formulate a plan to kill the leadership via suppressed sniper rifles.

of the Occupy Movement by interested in developing a long--term plan to kill local Occupy leaders via sniper fire.

So who was the secret, redacted group of assassins?
The FBI, DHS, CIA, some private security contractor?
We'll probably never know.

Now, that is completely unacceptable. Nobody can justify such an action.
This is way off the 'terrorism prevention' it was supposed to about.

What is the source of those documents you showed? Anyone that has been involved with any contingency planning knows you come up with multiple scenarios , no matter how ridiculous, and plan for them. So we need to know the context of them also.

Just to be clear my last post should have read "the FBI were aware of plans to assassinate the leaders of OWS with suppressed sniper rifles."

There was no investigation into the threat of civilians being targeted for assassination, even though it's like, you know, their job...

Since there was no investigation or any charges filed, or anything at all being done about it, it's my opinion it was a sanctioned plan by another government agency.

I provided the source. The Partnership for Civil Justice Fund obtained them through the FOIA.

Sorry, misread your comment completely. (blushes)

It is, of course, still unacceptable that they aren't investigating it. Might be another government agency's, might be an organisation with FBI ties.
