AN-72 down in Kazakhstan

An Antonov AN-72 carrying 27 passengers and crew has gone down in the mountains of Kazakhstan, killing everyone on board. The aircraft belonged to the Kazakhstan border troops, and was travelling to Shymkent from Astana. It was making an approach to Shymkent, and went down about 20 miles short of the runway. There are reports that weather may not have been the best lately with strong winds, and heavy snow.

That is one awesome piece of machinery, designed to withstand harsh weather... I wonder if the pilot over estimated its abilities.
