Not sure it happens randomly when I view it on my cell phone though.
Maybe Skeptical is playing with font sizes? Along with the icons.

Nah, it's just the normal activity before the end.

I guess is been a long time since a 9.1.

I told you that the show will begin.

That website says the 8.2 was 601.8 kilometers (373.94 miles) deep. Is that deep for an earthquake, or is it an average depth? I don't know about that kind of stuff. Thank you to anybody who does! It just seems really deep to me.

That is normal for that spot behind ( to the Wast West of Kamchatka)
Could be related to that stuff on the East coast Kamchatka in the last week.

I was just adding some recent stuff, Iran, Kurils, China and Tonga ( yeah I'm way behind) to my Mag7+ map, now this one, I might as well keep the files open.

Full Moon tomorrow.

Looks like the USGS quake map just updated the Okhotsk quake to an 8.3

Edit to add: Anyone else notice the massive swarm of tremors happening in the Greenville, California area ? There has been literally dozens of them ranging from 2.0+ just in the past few hours... before and after the 5.7
edit on 24-5-2013 by CranialSponge because: (no reason given)

Edit: Okay I lied... I just counted 28 small quakes AFTER the 5.7 quake happened... 28 and counting thus far

They did?

Oh I guess it's time to open the champagne.

And for sure it was at the request of Mr. P.Man.

Of course it has happened before! It happens on ATS every time there is a large earthquake.

"Might be connected"?? Don't think there is much doubt about that! It would be interesting to see if large quakes here are normally preceded by that sort of activity.

It is unusually large for the immediate area. The only other Mag 8s between 1898 and 2011 were south west of there and shallow, in 2006 and 2007 and the other side of an imaginary line. This is actually the largest one recorded in that Kamchatka peninsula area. I have marked on the map the divide that I believe exists between the two parts of this line. There is a definite space with much lower activity.

The Map with Mag 8 and 7. Click for slightly larger image

The Map with Mag 6s added. Click for slightly larger image

The Map with Mag 5s added. Click for slightly larger image

Sorry, did not quite get the lines in the same place on each on, but you get the idea.
