Ah hell, I'll be the first to admit I'm a complete bumbling moron sometimes. I was so taken aback with the list layout that I never noticed "Map, List, Options" in the upper right corner. I went back to try to figure out why you'd like a simplistic list like that, and saw the upper right choices.

from one of the China Earthquake Administration pages (translated)

As at 0:00 on the 21st, Ya'an City, Sichuan Province, Lushan County 7.0 earthquake were recorded to 846 aftershocks, of which more than 3.0 aftershock 57 times, from 5.0 to 5.9, 2, 4.0 - 4.9 14 3.0 - 3.9 41 times.

oh yeah, so wheres the data? I'm only getting 62 events off the CEDC search mag 0.1 to 10

here ya go
Ya'an , Sichuan Province, Lushan County Aftershocks 18.5hrs

The trouble with this data (and EMSC too) is only two digit decimal points, so many quakes are stacked on top of each other.
In the interactive map the 7.0Ms is in the purple icon above the word Longmenxiang (fingered on the image), any icon that isn't 50% opacity has multiple events under it.

[color=8BB381 ](click image for interactive map, opens in new tab/window)

A tight group, I had the search out 100km from the 7.0Ms in all directions.

compare with the 2008 Mag 8 about 150-200km to the NE

I also discovered the map, but unlike Muzzy I am afraid I don't like it as much as the other 'new' page that has only just been implemented - darn it they have not even buried the old ones yet!

I know, I am just a Taurus and in a few short ours I will be an old age pensioner, or senior citizen as I believe they call us now.

Lucky you, there is talk of raising the retirement age here to 70
, it will just be my luck it will be implemented before I get to the current 65.

70 is just stupid. Who will employ a 70 year old - and it stops the youngsters getting jobs if people hang on.

Unfortunately although an OAP in England - officially according to Social Services - I still have a year to go here in Ireland!

Many thanks Miss Rainbows!

Thinking about perigee and apogee and the potential effect on earthquakes, this image to scale at 670 km per pixel show the distance from the Moon, The comment on the site is interesting as well. (Click the image for the source.

On this scale, all human spaceflight with the exception of the Apollo lunar missions has been confined to a region of two pixels surrounding the Earth; seeing the Moon's orbit in its true scale brings home how extraordinary an undertaking the Apollo project was. Of all the human beings who have lived on Earth since the origin of our species, only 24 have ventured outside that thin shell surrounding our Home Planet. Even the orbit which geosynchronous communications satellites occupy is only a little more than a tenth of the way to the Moon.

yeah the distances are hard to conceive, looking at those figures another way, my 1990 pickup truck has 176,000km on it, the average speed I drive both highway and urban would likely be 70km/hr, so I've been driving for 13 years and four months and I'm only just about 2/3 to the Moon

I don't think I'll make it all the way, the engine is wearing out

Great article! Can't wait to finish reading all of it!
I've always wondered why the moon looked huge at times.
Our kids would always wait to see it, if we were driving home after dark at the right time!

There is a farm not far from our house. It sits on a hill.
Approaching it, we come over another hill & around a bend.
As the road straightens out again....there it is....looming in the sky...
Huge behind buildings & big trees!

It only appears that way when it is in a specific portion of the sky.
Not across the road or farther past the farm. Only that certain spot!
Everyone always said it was an optical illusion!
After aaalll these years, now I have the answer! Thanks!

And Happy Birthday!!
WOQ

Geez I don't recall so many 6's in such a short space of time that weren't aftershocks.

I'm now using CENC (China) to archive these, they tend not to discount them so easily like ANSS/USGS do. Having said that, they missed our Taranaki 6.3mb (7.0ML) in July last year.

Update on Ya'an at 48hours

the Mainshock is fingered on both maps, it hasn't been altered, it just looks different, there are a couple of 4's (purple) and a couple of 5's (orange) mixed in with the pink 7 icon that makes it look red.

[color=8BB381](click image for interactive map, opens in new tab/window)

Summary
mag7= 1 = 476,879.14 TTNT
mag6= 0
mag5= 4
mag4= 35
mag3= 137
mag2= 151
mag1= 7
aftershocks 334 = 6,918.613 TTNT
total= 483,797.751 TTNT

Comparing the two maps on Google Maps you can see that the Chinese alter the data as time passes, just like everyone else, locations have changed.
The 48 hr map is freshly downloaded about an hour ago, of all events since the Mag 7.0Ms, so is a seperate file of data. Often I just add new stuff to the existing file. This method has proven to be a mistake and can lead to errors in judgement (which way the aftershocks are heading).
I should do another 18.5hr map with the new data to compare more closely but I've got a headache and need to leave the computer alone for a while.

FWIW the text font I used for the titles is "nothing you could do" which seemed appropriate. I've started using it on my LISS SNZO graphs as well ( just did an update of those yesterday, all of April that were worthy of saving at the time, used the USGS Theoretical P-Wave Travel Times map/data page off individual events pages for the odd ones where I wasn't sure, its not much use for far-field smaller 5's and high 4's as the P wave an be a whole line away from the LR wave "wiggle" on the LISS graph)

See you on Quake Watch 2113.

Yup you betcha. Will you be there? I flatly refuse to die. There is far too much going on in the world that I want to see unfold so i am just not going to do it.

After a few emails back an forward about the beastly new USGS site (I am a Taurus so I hate it automatically) I discover the options make it more palatable and less grey grab.

By the way most of you will be completely unaware of the missing historic moment tensors image which used to be available and now is not. The person that looked after that apparently retired

The historic moment tensor map stopped working when the person who maintained that system retired and was not replaced.

Staff reductions by natural wastage then? Shame however but at least EMSC do a reasonable one for each event. I guess their 'bod' has not retired yet?

The USGS Mag 5.9 this morning which is Mag 6.1 to everyone else is showing well even in Wyoming.

FLWY.IW..BHZ.2013.112

and also in Colorado: SDCO.US.00.BHZ.2013.112

yet other seismos close by, also BHZ channels, show very little.

Ozonia, NY: LONY.US.00.BHZ.2013.112 and Virginia: CBN.US.00.BHZ.2013.112

The difference between West and East is apparent. (or something - maybe just the distance - no just measured it both ~3000 km)

Also about the same distance is BCIP - Isla Barro Colorado, Panama BCIP.CU.00.BHZ.2013.112

Another channel yet not as strong as on the Wyoming/Colorado ones.

Trickling up the old San Andreas perhaps. My lovely new Google Earth Earthquakes thingy courtesy of USGS with links that go to the new page, that is to say the old new page, has decided to take leave of absence so I can't see the Tectonic plate boundaries but I guess Panama can't be far off the split in the apple.

Indeed it is.
We are needed here at this moment and many things must be unfolded before 2113.

But I guess that will be an interesting thread....to watch.
