I have a funny feeling that subduction area that is the Santa Cruz islands is going to unleash a monster.

This is not an official prophecy, so you can't throw stones if I am totally off my rocker.
By the way....I flew off my rocker many moons ago![]()
You may not be wrong however, and that is the area that I believe my blogging friend was trying to highlight.
At present the Santa Cruz activity is running across the 'bend' in the zone. Thinking on the larger scale it could be that as the whole of the Pacific plate rotates as a result of the stress changes after Japan it is cracking open the angle. But I am just guessing.
What intrigues me is the way the quakes are bracketing the main island. It is a fairly steep rise from the ocean floor to the island above land - about 1 in 15 both sides in the SW / NE line and the deepest part of the trough is ~5600 metres or about 3.5 miles.
Time as they say will tell.

I tried to find a little history on the area, but all I found were pages about recent activity.
It just looks like it could produce an 8.8
