You can have a go if you want.
Be careful not to go too early though, i got in trouble last year when I posted too early, ( see 1st post) I had to get the moderators to bring it back from being deleted because it didn't have anything substantial in the 1st post.
Tick-tock I believe .......... was meant to make a sticky out of it, tick-tock being the countdown. Was lost on the moderators however.

196 pages later ..............

yet there is so much crap here on the other ATS forums

Who ever does it for 2014 can count on my support, as long as it doesn't obsess about fracking.

Ha, ha! I had forgotten about that!
Only time that I've ever had posts removed!!!
I was really upset that they bleeped you! I felt like a real outlaw!
Guess I just observe too quietly !

Oops! Gratuitous quake reference...how about that handful of high five quakes today???
And the last three 4's in the Marianas are going up a little in magnitude.

Yeah it was pretty silly what they did, had to get a quake enthusiast on the "board" to pull some strings.
Thanks for your support on that

The Moon isn't doing anything special right now, not apogee or perigee, full or new, so don't know what those 5.5+ quakes are about.
I don't follow Solar Flares, anything happening from the Sun right now?

s0 has been talking about a conjunction with Mercury and Jupiter, along with an equatorial coronal hole coming Earth facing soon... his Morning News today had a good description about his elevated quake watch for the coming few days. He rated it as an 8 which he doesn't do often...

Interesting, don't know anything about the source though.

Geez what a mess that page is

might have some good links though

Speaking of predictions, 6.454 TTNT energy released on the 28th UTC (for 24 hrs) in New Zealand, that is the lowest this month, can expect a 5+ within the next 3 to 6 days at the outside, 66% chance, based on historical observations.

EARTHQUAKES due to human activity are just as an appropriate topic as any here on Quake Watch. They are earthquakes, and I frackin' watch them. And, many people are interested in this developing topic. For example, the middle of Oklahoma is shaking nonstop at the moment. And, the frickin' frackin' quakes are getter gradually bigger on a regular basis. We are now have many earthquakes in the 4 magnitude range. And, no one knows exactly how big they will get. And, no one know exactly what will happen if there is a very large earthquake. Since, there haven't been large earthquakes here in recorded times. That means this is all news, and news that affects people's lives directly. I post anything I can find so people can use this information to become active and understand what the frack is going on.

So, until the freakin' frackin' earthquakes stop, I'll keep on watching and discussing those QUAKES which are caused by mankind. Even the damn earthquakes that are caused by dams, and those from depleted aquifers. Just cause we cause them, don't make them real.

And, real important.

Oh, look here's some earthquakes now... and, over the last 7 days.

I logged off. And, intended to say no more. I even stopped myself from posting an article on a road collapse in Mexico.

But, I can't shake this feeling. Even tough I want these thoughts gone. As to the argument of obsession, I will never deny the truth of any matter. Oh, I am not interested in the quakes, I am compelled to watch. Watching like you would any horror film. Watching- because you can't look away. As Stephen King puts it, as a kid you watch a scary film and you hold your hands over eyes to shield you. But, you almost always end up peeking through because you can't help yourself. I admit, I am addicted to the scary. (something, something, something) I am obsessed.

I am just the little dutch boy. I see a hole in the dyke and I try and fit my finger in to stop the water. For in my mind I see the future of the wall. The wall will not hold if left to erode. And the sea will pour in. But the hole is too big. Heck, I know I can't do it myself. Even if I stick in my big thick head all the way and hold my breath. Because it's not just ONE hole anyway.

I see the Oklahoma situation as a prelude to a disaster. But the story is not isolate here. It started in Arkansas, and is spreading like a disease. I want to be wrong. And glad that I was when it came to Arkansas. Yet. I am glad for this. I'm not seeing the future as a clairvoyant. I am seeing the future in the same way you can anticipate the dominoes falling way down the line. Right now, it would seem that line is heading toward Oklahoma.

When we wake up one day and there's a large earthquake due to fracking et al, I will not be shocked. Because if you know how the scary scene plays out, the gore and disorder neutered by familiarity. No more surprise. However, I will be saddened and outraged. And, I may be even way off the mark. Maybe it's Holland that sinks into the sea. Wherever, and whomever. It doesn't matter. It was preventable. And I guess that's where my obsession lay. In the real life mystery of why. Why do we do it knowing otherwise? Sometimes, the horror is knowing what's coming, and being completely helpless to stop it. There, that's the core. Helplessness. You can't have fear without being mortal and powerless. I think when I write and try to understand, I feel a little less powerless. A little.

Because if I were God- I would be powerful. And I would stop the madness. Well, not a God. Superman. Ya, he could fly around and use his x-ray vision to find failing faults, and use his lazer vision to weld together the cracks. But how can Superman take out the poisons from the water? And how can he get the oil and gas out without causing such woe?
Oh, I don't know.

Well said, Eric.

My gut feeling is that the decades of oil and gas extraction, compounded with high-pressure toxic waste injection, has primed ancient faults for movement. How big, how many and for how long is anyone's guess.

According to PM's last activity report, USGS & EMSC it has now been 12 days since the last 6.0+ earthquake; 34 days since we have had a mag 7 or larger; 219 days since a mag 8.0+.

That is today's news, doesn't talk about potential earthquakes too much until the end, he talks about it more on yesterday's which I linked above... Either way some good info on potential links between solar and earthquake activity, he has a lot of info on his website too...

I vote for Olivine (you are a huge contributor to this thread) and I think we need a 2014 North American or Americas Earthquake watch whether it be from fracking or natural causes. They may be small and of no interest to some on here but if it pertains to a swarm on any of our potential sleeping giants it may be important in the big picture, how about including anything that is extraordinary such as marine beachings, die offs, etc.

Time to get our own thread, I think?

Right by the Phlegraean Fields located at 40.827°N 14.139°E

From Wiki:

A 2009 journal article stated that inflation of the caldera centre in the vicinity of Pozzuoli might presage an eruptive event within decades.[9] In 2012 the International Continental Scientific Drilling Programme planned to drill 3.5 km (2.2 miles) below the earth's surface near Pompeii intending to monitor the massive molten rock chamber below in order to provide early warning of any eruption. Local scientists are worried that such drilling itself could initiate an eruption or earthquake.

In 2010 the Naples city council had prevented the drilling project. Programme scientists said the drilling was no different than industrial drilling in the area. The newly elected mayor allowed the project to go forward. A Reuters article emphasized that the area could produce a "super volcano" that might kill millions.
