How long before anyone shows it?

Dang it, I wish the Wrangell Island station was available on GEE still. I watched a TON of the Haida Gwaii/Queen Charlotte 7's aftershocks on that until the big switchover :/ It's really hard to tell how big one is on the NRCAN site.

Edit: Man, I'm a slow learner. I just figured out by clicking "Station Chooser", I could add a Canadian network and get the Belle Bella station.

Wrangell has one? You have a link to that???!?!?!?

My hometown is Petersburg, right across from Wrangell.

This is the coolest thing ever, I only found out about it after stumbling on TrueAmerican's GEE threads.
www.seis.sc.edu...

You can select what axis you want. I just select the Z axis (up & down) to stress their servers less. Click Edit, Station Chooser, and Vertical.
Blue icons are available stations, greys are unavailable (Wrangell is unavailable for now) BUT, if you click Edit and go to Station Chooser (with the icon next to it), you can click Add Network at the top of that & scan down a list of networks after they load. It was the first Canadian one I saw, I clicked it, scanned the list of stations, eventually saw Belle Bella listed in blue. Selected that, GEE reloaded, and boom, Bella Bella.

Make sure you let the program load fully first (after all the triangles are done going from white to grey or blue) I've had it crash on me farting with it before it finished.

Yikes, you're right - I'd like to know this too! Isn't it a full magnitude lower to be able to call the biggest a mainshock?

Wow--something is certainly up. The real time, EarthquakesCanada site is impressive--watching the quakes as they happen. How will this (if at all) impact further south (Washington, Oregon)?

Is that ANOTHER 5.9? I just got the USGS alert

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Beach Boys just popped in to my head

It's definitely movin' & groovin' today. Who knows what the next few hours could bring. I really hope the 6 & 5.9 aren't foreshocks, but geez, I don't have a very good feeling for the BC coast...

Mom, actually. And a Trekkie mom at that. But your assumption is correct in part, dad also kicks back with the cartoons. We're all avid fans of Amazing World of Gumball & Adventure Time. I got to suffer through Uncle Grandpa because dad couldn't sit through it

Which is very interesting, because after 03.11.11,have dropped in magnitude and intensity.

And this could mean two things:

-the energy released 03.11.11 and prior, may be spread over a longer period of time

or

-the energy builded in time has two sequences one on 03.11.11,and the other one very sudden and without foreshocks.
And right I was right.

Poking around USGS, and on the home page:

September 4, 1989
M 6.9, Alaska – One of the Largest Earthquakes in the United States.

FWIW, the Kenai Peninsula has been trembling quite a bit today too. Could be a memorable 24 hours coming up.

Petersburg AK had a 7.5 back in January of this year.

7.5 Petersburg AK newspaper

It started up about 2 months after almost the same place started to rumble that is rumbling now....

Tectonic Summary The October 28th, 2012 (October 27 at the location of the epicenter) M 7.7 earthquake south of Masset, Canada, occurred as a result of oblique-thrust faulting near the plate boundary between the Pacific and North America plates. At the location of this event, the Pacific plate moves approximately north-northwest with respect to the North America plate at a rate of approximately 50 mm/yr.

So I wonder if this section somehow puts more pressure on the southeast Alaskan coast.
