agreed and for anyone to think that the budget for the SS detail comes from POTUS' personal pocket is reflective of the level of igornance that surrounds us.

It comes from our pocket - the taxpayers.

I went to one of those schools. Called Landon in Bethesda MD. The reason there are armed guards is because children of politicians and what not are kidnapper targets. The people of influence can be in quite a pickle if someone kidnapped their kid at school. Its really a national security issue.

Not a class issue, a national security issue

Uh, it still is a class issue. These people can afford to send their precious little snowflakes to a private school with nearly a dozen security guards -- not to mention the superior teachers and resources. Most people don't have this option.

Glad you had the privelidge of going to such as school. That must be why you're the John Lock of ATS.

And I am familiar with SFS. Had college mates who went there. Yes, a lot of politicians' and foreign dignitaries' spawn go there.

The fact is, although I am not for the armed-guard at every school notion, I still find it hypocritical of politicians being against paying for such safety for the masses while their own precious snowflakes are spared no safety advantage. Then there's the fact that politicians who are responsible for funding public education send their kids to private schools. YES, IT IS A CLASS ISSUE.

Guessing I will have some strange bedfellows in agreement with me on this one...

Have these politicians out right said , no armed guards ever for schools? If they have, can I see a link with the quote?

I sense a bit of animosity at those kids who have or been able to attend there.

A parent can get an armed guard for their kid, send them to a private school that has one. Just like healthcare that the right is so adamant about letting the market dictate. Want better health service? Make more money.

shhhhh, don't tell those who think the "president pays for his kids protection out of his own pocket by paying for them to attend a private school".
we wouldn't want them to have to accept the truth now would we ?

speaking of private schooling ... where were/are the armed guards at the Chicago Lab private school they attended before he became POTUS ??

for not understanding the question, you sure repeated it awfully well.
now, please answer it.

you know, like you said, he pays for it ... so you say, now prove it.
oh, and while you're at it, how 'bout some proof that Landon uses 'armed guards' as well.

No, I was asking you if that school did. I dont know.

And some schools do and some dont. I dont really have the schooling history of the Obama girls on hand... Again I dont know where you are trying to go with this one.

What does it matter if Landon does or doesnt? I suppose, you could go there and find out?

Lots of people believe at least in my country that more guns don't resolve problems like this, although I'm certainly in agreement that it's probably the only way forward. On that note, what if one of these protection officers has a major screw loose? Let's be realistic here, many people of responsibility have gone nuts before. The carnage could be significantly worse.

no of course not .. why would you 'know' about that which you preach

yes, and Emanuel wants to use the Chicago Lab school as an example for all other public schools, so what's your point ?
CLS does not employ 'private security' as you're trying to imply.
the 'excessive tuition' is for an education, not security.

Landon doesn't matter to me except that you presented it as 'proof' that private schools use 'tuition' funding to provide special security for children of the politically challenged.

no biggie for me, just proving that yet another one of your claims is patently false

no different than riding in a car vs a motorcycle.
2 methods to the same destination ... one is proven to be more dangerous than the other.

risk is risk is risk ... as an American, we have the ability and freedom to mitigate our own risk.
it is not a government decision to make.

The point is "we the people" don't have the same "protection" given to our children, all the while these people that "serve" the American public hypocritically try and take those same rights away from us. Would you agree?

Ever read Animal Farm? All animals are created equal, but some more equal. Makes me wonder why the NWO ran school system insists on students reading that book. It gives you a heads up of what to expect by your so called leaders. Socialism never has nor will work.

I absolutely agree that Every child is deserving of our protection. When it comes to the children of the leader of a country, specially a country like America though, these children are powerful pawns in the wrong hands-what if they had to be kidnapped for ransom-but the ransom demands were not in monetary terms? I dont have to spell it out.I bet the visible protection for Obama's children is only the tip of the iceberg-and much as i dislike the guy,i cannot fault him for that. Its certainly not just the lives of the people he loves most in the world at stake here-it is plain common sense.

They are well known political figures and I would be shocked if the school Obama's girls went to didn't have armed guards and no I don't see the hypocrisy. I see Conservatives not wanting to spare a penny for non-necessities like guards at schools. They don't even want to pay the teachers for cripes sakes. Now you expect the bunch of skinflints to spring for guards in Public Schools? LMFAO

You're right: no, these politicians haven't outright come out against guards for all schools, but they have done nothing to reinstate the assault weapon ban that ended in 2004, even though the US has had mass school shootings since then. And why should they when their children attend heavily guarded schools? However, given budget constraints, I doubt anyone in Washington D.C. is going to suggest spending 4-6 billion dollars on armed guards for all public schools. And given the reaction by some members of the Democratic caucus regarding the NRA's proposal, I can't see them supporting any such measure.

For the record, I don't see putting one armed guard in each public school as being an effective countermeasure to such attacks; seems like restrictions on high firepower weapons and large-round magazines, along with better public mental health care would be a more efficacious solution. Now if you would have a dozen security guards at each school, like SFS, that would be another matter...

No, I don't have hostility for privileged kids of politicians and policy makers, only for their parents who set the funding and policies of education for the masses, and have their own, higher level of care for their own children. I feel the same way about how congress has a sweet health care deal for its members, but expects the average joe to deal with health insurance companies. It is a class issue, but it is not because of any personal resentment on my part regarding privileged children of elected officials/the ruling class.

Similarly, it is intolerable that Obama and his family doesn't get groped or bombarded with radiation when they travel by air, like ordinary Americans have to. We have a two-tiered system in this country in terns of law enforcement, justice and economics, and this is why this country to falling into ruin.

In the same vein, the drug money launderers of the HSBC (sp?) bank only had to pay a fine of about a month's profit of the company, whereas if a normal citizen is JUST ACCUSED of having money made from illegal drug activity, their property and wealth can be confiscated. In the case of this bank, no individual was accused of a crime or had to pay a personal fine; it was only a fine on the company. The whole company should have been confiscated, along with all the property and wealth of anyone involved in the money laundering.

I understand that political leaders' kids probably need more protection than other kids for the reason you give, but it also makes these policy makers out of touch with what the hoi palloi have to make due with.

I actually think the potential threat is somewhat overblown and I'm not really in to the idea of armed guards at any schools. School shooting are few and far between however if public consensus thinks otherwise then fine, I don't have an issue with it. I want to see our children protected.

Those who only respond that "of course they need protection, they're the President's daughters" didn't read the article. Armed guards are SOP for many of these private schools even if no politician's kids attend. We have them at airports, football games, banks, even convenience stores - but somehow it's a crazy idea to protect our kids at school?

Guns are no better and no worse than the person who holds them.
That's why we have extensive background checks.
It would certainly provide gainful employment for some laid off police officers and returning vets.

America also has thing about "equal protection under the law" and "all men are created equal". Maybe we're not all equal as adults but I think our children are deserving of that ideal.

But you know, it's not just the school the Obama's daughters attend that has armed guards - many Congressmen, business leaders and just rich people send the kids to these schools because they're safe. Do you not see the hypocrisy that their kids are more valuable than yours? Don't let anyone tell you that armed guards cannot keep a school safe. They don't even have to be openly armed and look like stormtroopers.
We're all entitled to safe schools, if it takes armed guards to keep their kids safe ours are worth it just as much.

The school, Sidwell Friends School in Washington, DC, has 11 security officers and is seeking to hire a new police officer as we speak. If you dismiss this by saying, "Of course they have armed guards -- they get Secret Service protection," then you've missed the larger point. The larger point is that this is standard operating procedure for the school, perio

I'm sorry, but this a ridiculous statement. There are many people out there who would love to hurt or kidnap these public official's children. No offense, but nobody knows who you or I am and that makes our children a lot safer then their's.

Jesus-- as were Bush's kids, Clinton's daughter, Reagans coillege kids, Carters daughter, etc...

Ya know-- if women defended their personal and civil rights with arms--
Republicans would have had Guns & Ammo outlawed, forcefully removed from your home and confiscated,
as of yesterday...
