One of my nicknames is eagle eye, for I used to have 20/15 vision.. The Line Never Broke... It's not the weakest link, at least in this case..

I can tell it's a silly bug, by my eyes..
I can tell it's unrelated by knowing some physics...

I have experienced bad spirits, so I am not hating on that idea..

It is what it is, and that is a BAD mistake.. I hope whoever set it up didn't freak out too much. The guy lived right?

edit on 12/24/2012 by Dustytoad because: (no reason given)

Agreed all around. Oh yeah, he DID live. He deployed his parachute in time (must have been a real low profile base jump thing??) anyway, he lived by what I could find and was fine.

I wouldn't have so casually joked about Darwin Awards if he'd actually earned one ..err.. What a way to go on video for the world to gawk at? Since he did land okay though...I feel it's just fine to have great amusement at his near miss to Darwin Fame.

Isn't the correct term "Guide rope"?

"Also I'm pretty sure this was featured on Tosh.0 or some other similar show recently."

How does a guy who takes videos from the internet and makes fun him them, have anything to do with the video's credibility? (Hint: It doesn't).

This is a weird video. What I want to know is if it is in essence, identical to the original? Because those black objects have eerie timing with the collapse of the high bar. Got a real spooky theme to it.

GUIS. IT IS OFFICIALLY CALLED A GUY ROPE. Or a Phage Line? ..Meh.

Nah can't be a phage line..
A phage line is: "That's a Lens flare" ..
And he's almost always right.

Except when he tries to see low contrast clouds in detail.

@wrabbit.. Ok Good

It is not identical. Watch the original yourself on Youtube. As other have mentioned, when the quality is poor, you can make it look like anything.

If we're getting technical....

Father-of-five, Henriksen, who was filming the stunt for a Norwegian TV appropriately called "Normal Madness", attached a Gymnastic High-Bar to the side of the cliff in an attempt to acrobatically launch into his jump.

Yes.
And guess what the uprights were secured with.

But you're right. It is silly.
A bug flew by and ten seconds later, when the rig was exposed to maximum stress, it failed.

Is there any reason to think the two are related?

Phage likes to be technical. Don't hate on him for it.. Got to stop speaking for people grr.. Sorry.

Where I am from we usually call those "Guy Wires..."

It's the term used for the diagonal lines that hold up radio towers, or telephone poles...

It makes sense for the video at hand. Rope works too, at least for me.

I never got why it was guy and not guide, but whatever..

I'm voting for that little gremlin we call "physics" and a liitle added Darwin Award nominee.

He never had enough cables to stabalize all side to side and front & back movement, what did he think was going to happen when he pulled back with no front support wires ? Bad design is the cause, nothing more.

Not at all, I agree with you there. In the link i posted up top, you see it from a million different angles. It's pretty self explanatory to anyone willing to do the 3 seconds of research.
As for the Phage Line, I honestly have no idea what attaches to what, I'm surprised I found anything 'debunking" you in the first place. Back to the drawing board.

"rope, chain, wire," mid-14c., "leader," from O.Fr. guie "a guide," from guier (see guide (v.)); or from a similar word in North Sea Germanic. The "rope" sense is nautical, first recorded 1620s.

www.etymonline.com...

I should not assumed others would be familiar with such technical terminology.

Ok, the term, irrelevant. It really is. But is the Guy Line the diagonal line that stretches from the top of the high wire to the rock itself?

If so, It doesn't appear to me as if that is what broke. It looks almost like the side just snapped off/came apart/whatever you want to call it.

Either way, no demons here.

Ok, wow thanks for figuring this out guys

Let me see if I got this right, ok guy?

Phage says that this was not a bug, but more like a flare guy that broke the guys rope?

Now I'm confused. Phage guy, how could solar flare break guys rope? there is no full moon, no?

guy? guys/?
