The folks on here from the UK who just cannot stop worrying about American affairs all the time, must really live some really LAME LIVES over there.
WHAT A WASTED LIFE you all must have!!!
You just cant seem to stop minding our business over here in America ALL THE TIME!!
Very sad.

Are you UK folks really that BORED?? No life perhaps?? Or is it that you all are deep down inside VERY BITTER that you all lost YOUR RIGHTS by being so spineless??

Stats show that your gun bans FAILED you over there and that crime increased SIGNIFICANTLY since then. Law abiding folks there are defenseless. If someone over there beats up a home intruder too "harshly" they could go to JAIL for a long time just for defending his home and family!! Thats PATHETIC to say the least!! You all need to use your BITTER ENERGY to stand up for yourselves and try to get some FREEDOM and RIGHTS back over there, yes?

But instead you just display your LAME PATHETIC life by butting into American affairs constantly. Here is a HINT: Americans honestly couldnt care less about your input. We dont want your LIVES over here. We dont care what your opinions are as they are silly at best. And we think that your way of life is beyond PITIFUL. God save the queen, you say?
God would save my pet hamster before he saves that old pathetic bag!!!

So why waste your time?? Go find something BETTER to do involving your OWN country, and your OWN life, and your OWN affairs. Because God KNOWS you have your OWN PROBLEMS over there that you should be thinking about!!

To put it in terms you may understand better, you UK folks can PISS OFF!!!!!!

.
AMERICA DOESNT CARE WHAT YOU THINK,[color=skyblue] GET A LIFE!!!!!!!!!

Maybe it is time for my people to call gun laws as invalid as your hunting and fishing laws. If I need meat, I can go kill me some meat, or go fish up some fish, no matter what time of year it is. I usually do only do it in season though, because I understand why they were put in place in the first place.

If we had been well armed, we would have never allowed our kids to be kidnapped by the church and government, and sent to those indoctrination death schools. I plan to bring it up with the elders and get their take on it.

This isn't about "appeasing" your so-called right-wing extremists (whatever the hell that is).

This is about forcing your heads of state to hear both sides and make the final vote accordingly. Your heads of state get paid to listen to both sides and come up with concessions to try and satisfy all voices screaming in their ear. If all they hear is one side, then guess what their decisions are going to be based on ?

You're throwing your arms up in the air before the game has even begun.

You can't reduce crime, you can't reduce the number of criminals committing crimes, and you can't stop the growth rate of crime (short of martial law and a 100% police state)... none of us can... but you can help to reduce the number of mass rampage shooting incidents by tightening the laws up (everywhere) to make it harder to acquire the gear needed at dirt cheap prices to every friggin' Tom, Dick, and Harry.

And let's face it... it's these mass rampage shootings that gets everyone to sit up and take notice, not the day to day crimes going on in every country. These rampage shootings stick out like a sore thumb and eventually your leaders are going to have no choice but to take measures to get it under control... the point of no return may already be here for you.

So don't put your head in the sand now, hoping that it will all go away... because this time it may very well not.

I was talking about leftwing extremists as well by the way. Both of them are irrelevant, and fringe.

Not that US laws effect me at this very moment anyways, but I am dual, and I care about both Canada and the US, as I am native, and have native blood ties in both countries. See, the attitude that the government is the leaders need to change. They are not leaders, they are representatives, and better start acting like it. And plenty of states are getting fed up with the federal government goons sticking their noses where it doesn't belong as well. If these leaders pull a rash decision, expect strong opposition. While left wingers run around screaming and ranting, right wingers are preparing for war quietly. If push comes to shove, my money is on the right wingers.

Well, all I have to say is that, dammit, you guys better bloody well make sure your stupid representatives don't go to extremes. Because then it will eventually trickle across the border to my stupid representatives and then we'll all be hunting venison with a friggin' toothpick and a slingshot.

And if that happens, I'll be pissed right off at you guys south of the border for not stepping up to the plate when it was needed... and will refuse to share my good beer and whiskey with the lot of ya from that day forward !

You have been warned !

The problem as I see it is that the criminals are well armed. You talk of banning all guns, and the criminals laugh about it all, waiting for the day they can rob and plunder at will. I believe crack, meth and heroin are all illegal, Stealing and robbery are illegal, but does that stop one single meth addict from getting meth? Does a single heroin addict go a day without heroin? NO they do not, because they don't give a d*** for the laws or your opinions!

I come from a place where guns are the rarity, and nobody carries a gun because it is (or was) illegal to do so. However, robbery and violent crime are everyday occurrences there. You see people knocking the hell out of one another daily there. However moving to the state I live in now where every other person has a concealed carry permit, I have been here for 30 years and not seen a single real fistfight!

The violence is confined to the criminal elements where it will never go away, and the law abiding citizens can walk the streets and not worry about interpersonal violence because it is the exception and not the rule as it is in the gun free place I grew up.

You look at the statistics and places like Chicago and Washington DC have some of the highest murder/violent crime statistics in the nation, and places where guns are prevalent are some of the safest. Myself I have seen the difference first hand, and appreciate the exceptional level of safety we enjoy here. I can relax and man that is important to me coming from where I grew up.

If a police officer pulls over a concealed carry driver here they breath a sigh of relief, because they know that this person is a law abiding citizen at least as far as their background check is concerned. The police here know the difference because even though there are the rare ones that slip through the cracks of the background check system, most people with violent tendencies tend to be in the system most of their life and are easily identified, whereas a guy who is 45-50 and never been arrested is more than likely safe to be around.

I am amazed at how people think the police will save them from every situation and that the authorities can stop eveything by the very presence of "The Law." This is a misconception, and finding out that it is can be a very painful process that I hope you never have to live through.

Guns provide the security that you enjoy in this country, and won the right for you to have your opinion, therefore I am going to honor that right and simply shake my head at "some people's kids" who may yet live to see the error of their ways. I pray that you never have to see it and can live all your days spouting your opinions.

I own guns because I live in the woods and have bear, cougars, bobcats and coyotes here that I may have to deal with at some point, though until they infringe on me I live and let live. I also drive a long way back and forth to work through some fairly shady areas where drug addiction has become prevalent, hence my CCP. I don't like to think about ever having to use it and would use it only in the most dire life and death situations, and my guns are properly secured and will never be any danger to any law enforcement or other good guys.

If Lanza's parents had followed the same precautions, we would not be having this discussion. Like I said above I respect your right to have your opinion and you have the right to say it...because guns won you that right. Just give me the same respect is all I ask. Leave me and mine alone.

It's not easy to not be on the defensive when talking about guns. I mean on this thread alone there is a guy who compared owning guns to murder and canibalism.... I get that kind of stuff all the times. City people seem to think shooting and hunting is like a hobby to us, it is part of our whole way of life. Kids generally start being taught to shoot around the 8-12 year old range, first day of hunting school is closed, because most of us bring our kids with us anyways, even if they are not going to be shooting.

I grew up on caribou, moose, deer, geese, prairie chicken, etc... (and fried bologna
). Safeway bought porterhouse steak is something the rich folk ate.

Where I live hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiliing, quadding, are a way of life.

I would really hate to see that all disappear.

I wish there was an easy answer to this pandemic of mass rampage shootings going on in the US. Let's hope their reps make some good decisions for all.

So using a deadly weapon is your heritage I gather? It's your pride? You wake up everyday and holster it like a cowboy and think: "Im gonna save the world today"? Is that it?

So why don't you get rid of your Army and Cops then since your populace is armed you really don't need one.
You don't need grocery stores either, you can all hunt now.
You don't need home security, for you have guns.
Fighting wars abroad should be stopped, cause you are defenders hence the guns, right?
When Children are killed by a psycho who used a gun in the crime, the media should give hell to the schools and ask why each teacher didn't have a gun in the class.
When people are shot at work it's their fault, they should of had guns.

Whoever called you neanderthal was correct, owning guns is an antiquated unnecessary way in this day and age and does no good for anyone. Considering the rest of the world regulates them harshly and has much less shootings (MUCH LESS) it stands to reason your assessment is biased and wrong.

You can defend guns all you like but the numbers speak volumes in themselves and a bit of research and an open mind would have you thinking the same thing.

However, being a gun owner you are not open minded, don't care about who's died or who's in danger, all you care about is waking up with a gun.

We wiped the neanderthals out eventually because of their backwards thinking and antiquated ways. How long do you think your old antiquated ways will last considering all the shootings you have had recently?
Your on the cusp of weapons bans and it will do you all some good.

Sometimes children need to be told, not asked and in this case the gun owners are the children and the government should not ask, it should regulate for the security of it's people. Period then end. Don't like it, too bad. Evolution is here and you can evolve with the world or be left behind in the old one.

I think it would be nice if people thought this through to the end. First, less than .1% of gun owners in America commit any type of criminal act using a weapon. So 99.9% never use their weapon in an illegal manner. Better than birth control. More people are killed in car accident each year from drunk driving and road rage than are with guns. So let’s outlaw cars. Next, the war on drugs started in the 1970's has effectively brought drugs to our door step. Mexico is controlled by drug cartels and the drug trade is bigger than ever. So now we are going to criminalize gun ownership. We cannot control the drug trade and you believe we can control the gun trade after making them illegal. Now you will have people buying guns for one reason that is to commit a crime. Next, how are we going to recall all the guns already in the hands of Americans? Are you going to do a Stalinist house to house search and let them take your weapons? Another thing to consider is our future. Take a look at your TV and watch CNN, MSNBC, ABC, or CBS and take notice of all the fighting going on in Syria, Egypt, Afghanistan, and Northern Africa. Do you really believe that all that fighting is going to remain overseas? It is only a matter of time before the exact same crap is coming to your neighborhood. If you think I am wrong check out the Ukraine and Bosnia. Is coming it might be 5, 10 or 20 years off but here is comes. Lastly, it is obvious that you allow the new media to decide what issues are important and not. The fact that all American are getting poorer, have no job, and that Washington is ready to take your IRA, 401K and never pay you a dime for SS is far more important than gun legislation. It might sound cold but more people are starving to death, and dying from the lack of medical care than homicides in the USA. We continue to go down the idiot path faster and faster.

I do not own a gun, I do not want a gun, but I always want the option to buy a gun. I want to be able to buy a F-22 with cannon, missiles, and bombs. You just never know and I do not need the trash in Washington DC holding my hand and wiping my butt. I am a big boy with very good morals and I have manage to live 55 years without shooting a gun or being shot. An believe it or not I am in the majority of people that have no plans of using a weapon to commit a crime. I am very sure you are the same and have no intention of using a weapon to kill.

I am not a proponant of more laws, as I said above, but IMHO they could go a long way towards stopping any illegal or crooks from getting guns would be to simply do away with the huge gun shows that go on here and everywhere. Many a gun changes hands at these events that goes without a background check, and that is where many a felon can get their guns and turn a legal gun into an illegal one. That simple change would go a long way towards closing the gaps. That is about as far as I would go towards implementing new laws, and I have said this for years.

Peace...

I've been told that being a gun owner is just compensation for a lack of sel-esteem. That you have to carry a gun to be a big man. No compensation here. I would just rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I do think there should be gun owner competency cards or something that have to be renewed each year. Go through a course that teaches proper handling and safety and maybe even include a psych evaluation.

Most detractors of gun ownership forget that owning a gun is no different than owning a baseball bat. Do thesenpeople not know of competitive shooting? It IS in the Olympics. And before you bring caliber into the discussion, some people just enjoy shooting certain weapons as the golfer enjoys hitting golf balls. I like to go to the range and fire a few different calibers. Have you ever had the chance to be behind the trigger of a .50 cal machine gun? Even the biggest opponent of guns would get an adrenaline rush from that.

I agree with you...we are all children who cannot think for ourselves. We need the Government to tell us all what we can and cannot do, we need them to provide for all our daily needs.

The Government is good, and we are bad.....

The government is all knowing and everything it does is in our best interest whether we like it or not.

The day the Government finally has total control over every aspect of our lives will be a good day since the Government can never do wrong or make a mistake. They can tell us when to sleep, work and eat... boy will that be a great day for us all. Crime will be zero, no one will own anything that the Government does not provide and approves of, no one will do anything at all unless the Government says so....

Like you, I just can't wait for that day to happen....

Firstly let me point out to you that ALL stereotypes are the domain of idiots and bigots. People tend to be far more complex than mere stereotypes....

I am glad that you seem like a normal kind of person.. I feel no need to carry a gun but if you do then it is not yet illegal so you have a right to do so...

But what about the nut cases. I hope that you are not claiming that every gun owner is as a upright and responsible as you seem to be.

I am ex military and and an ex hunter....I have recently seen a beautiful gun that I thought about buying. So I am not your average left wing terrorist. I also have no desire to mug white people so as you see stereotypes are all assinine!

Happy Xmas

So I posted a link on facebook that I found on a thread here not long ago..

This one

And wound up in debate with a 50 year old woman.

We covered quite a bit of subject matter, but when we got to the base reason I support the 2nd...
in the event our government becomes tyrannical...

...her argument, "It cannot and will not ever happen here. Period."

This woman, who claims to be an Army Vet as well as a historian, subscribes to the "It can't happen to me" mindset.

There, my contribution to the OP's original intent for this thread.
