I wont blame one side or another, what I do think is happening here is that the situation is being exploited by those in power to one end or another (to meet some agenda like Gun Control).

Ask yourself the question, if virtually all guns are handed in the public is left helpless (to a sense) when they are finally put under the control of martial law and have to submit to whatever dictatorship is in effect in the USA.

Take a look at Iraq, they took away virtually all arms so that the outside forces would not have as much hostility to deal with.

I think politicians and those in power have realised it is only a matter of time before the people revolt (and they will) so the only way to deal with them is to first remove any resistance prior to putting everyone under a program of control and submission.
