Armed security is the best option. We already have police officers at all high schools, at least in Mississippi. So, why not put them at elementary schools and Jr. Highs as well?

Wait, i know why. Obama cut the budget to those programs.

I got an Idea. Instead of buying Pakistan's and Egypt's allegiance. Let us cut their money, and use it to protect our schools. Sounds like a plan to me.

Why have our lives come to a point in which the best solution is to have armed guards at an elementary school? Do you not see a bigger issue? I feel there are problems here that have nothing to do with tax dollars or Obama.

Americans have to keep one step ahead of the nutbars, and if that means armed security in all schools then so be it. Sadly the nutbars are dictating policy as before this no one actually worried about it. Perhaps if they did senseless death could have been avoided.

The history of the evils disarming the people before the slaughter. Don't be fooled. The Mayans slaughtered humans, did blood sacrifices and that calendar was the declaration of the dark age now upon us. Jesus exposed the evil powers of authority to all of us. Wake up and repent. This was foretold to us in the bible. It is the presence of dark forces that seek to destroy humans, how is it people cannot see the same lies told to Eve are used yet again. Don't trust the authorities who seek to render us defenseless, they intend to slaughter our people.

Lol, you say this with 8% unemployment with a real number of closer to 23 million out of work? How about one armed security guard and 5 armed teachers? Works well in Texas....

I start a school security guard want to be hired, you will need to qualify 2 times per year with your firearm. OR how about letting teacher carry if they want to, give them the training too, and they need to qualify 2 times per year...

The point is even if only one teacher did carry that is better than none, AND more importantly the bad guy doesn't know if it is 1 or 50...the result is bad guy never even goes to the school in the first place.

there are 200 million guns in the US

a new law won't do anything

I bet we will see sheriffs at elementary schools

I think the ideal solution would be a system to allow the teachers and administrators to carry if they want, but I don't see Congress or this administration going for that. Realistically, I think we'd be more likely to get armed security, which is acceptable, IMO. There needs to be a security presence on these school campuses that can respond quickly to these types of events and potentially minimize the damage, rather than the current situation, where essentially the same people show up 20 minutes later to deal with the aftermath. Yes, it would be expensive, but if we can pay all the junior and high school sports coaches, plus the ones teaching the equivalent of basket weaving, we can find the money to do this, too.

Perhaps we could send then to school in armored buses with guards as well. Bar the windows. Build a moat.

Odds say that at least of few of those Guards will be lunatic lone gunmen nut jobs ready to waste innocent life.

Why do we have to do anything that limits freedom? Children are still about 60 times more likely to die from a swimming pool. This shooting was tragic, it was however a statistical anomally. One that becomes less common in places where people can carry guns.

The simple solution is to get rid of the "gun free zone" surrounding schools or make an exception for people with a valid concealed carry permit. Concealed carry permit holders are six times less likely to be arrested for any violent crime than the population as a whole.

Shootings still happen in places people can carry weapons, but it is less likely. As was seen this week in Oregon, one man with a gun can make the difference.

Oregon Gun Owner Stops Shooting Spree

Nick drew down on the shooter as they made eye contact, and Nick prepared to fire. However, he determined (like any conscious firearms owner should) that there were other people behind Roberts, and his shot was not safe.

The only shot fired after this point was Roberts taking his own life. What could have ended as tragically as the school shooting in Connecticut ended much less tragically, with only two innocent people dead instead of 29.

Identify a problem, then apply a solution to it and the problem is resolved. That had always been how administrative leaders react, without really spending the time and effort to GET TO THE ROOT of the problem.

Solving a problem immediately, often based upon emotions than rationale, are only STOP GAP temporary measures, leading only the ROOT to regrow, often springing up differently and causing a myraid of different problems, resulting endless pain and suffering.

The ROOT of mass school slayings IS NOT due to guns, hollywood, or video games. Millions are engage in those activities, and if those are the roots, all mankind would have wiped themselves out ages ago.

The root lays squarely with insane people - those who lost their minds that they would slaughter innocent people.

How could these people JUSTIFY such slayings? Many reasons, but probably due to their upbringing which parents, society and leaders play a part.

For example, we know that Adam Lanza had a mental issue. Was he discriminated and bullied at a young age, espacially during his formative years? Such bullying often leads to deep rooted hatred, and when he snaps, he only remembers how he was rejected and brutalized during his childhood.

Was a father figure giving manly directions lacking in his life? His parents were divorced, and perhaps, the father was absent most of the time, resulting in him missing his father and feeling odd one out, in the rather idyllic land of Newton close-knitted families.

I have no answers. Only the authorities do, and may they do a proper investigation, then, govt agencies award grants to study more into such cases of insane killers upon school, find the commonality and then apply psychological and neurological research to find solutions to it, regarless if it is in medical form or a set of rules for parents and society to behave accordingly, such as stopping bullying at schools, etc.

Right now, while or if the political will is there to fund pyschological and neurological research and conducting, armed guards in schools are the best solution for the interim. Armed guards are not meant to be supermen, whom will react instantly to threats.

They are there to be a deterrent, the way arm guards exists in the white house, to make sickos think many times till they cracked their own head if they want to go through with their insanity upon others.

Banning weapons will only result leaving innocents with no protection at all to sickos and criminals who care not a hoot about laws, regulation or humanity.

This is not only an American problem. It is a humanity problem, as slayings of innocent people are getting more and more common, with or without guns. Only by resolving the ROOT of the problem - mental issues - by parents, society, leaders as well as religious leaders including even atheist fellowships, can such senseless slaughters be lessen and one day finally eradicated.

As humanity expands in close proximity to each other, so too does problems, like a tertris game. We need not fear or seek utilitarian live and let die measures. We only need sincere compassion and desire to resolve issue so that all may co-exists in peace.

Unfortunately, for the government, there's really nothing that they can do to make people happy.

They can try and arm all the teachers or put guards in the schools, but all it takes is one person to use those guns to go "crazy" and it's their fault.

They can try and ban the guns or put a "control" on guns, but all it takes is one bad person to get one and go "crazy" and it their fault.

They can do anything that they can think of to help, but the problem is that laws don't really "stop" crime at all. People can be evil and the laws will remove them from society so that can't hurt people anymore, but the damage is done.

So, what's the solution to stopping gun crime?
I'm not entirely sure.

If you ban all the guns, then you'd hurt a pretty large industry in an economy that's already hurting and anger a fairly reactionary segment of society.

If you let everyone carry guns, then something that might have been a simple fist-fight could turn into a shoot-out.

I'm sure that the answer is something in between. Isn't that what the current laws are like? Keep guns out of the hands of people who are likely to be bad, make people cool down before they can buy a gun and not let them walk around with guns so that they can get angry and shoot someone, and walk a thin line between letting people buy the guns that make them happy while limiting their effectiveness in killing a large amount of people.

I'm sure the laws could use some tweaking, but they really are trying to do what they can. The reality is that people are going to shoot other people no matter what the laws are. Someone determined enough can break any law no matter how hard you make it for them to do it. The only thing they can do with gun control is make it harder for the average person to do it on a whim.

Imagine if Obama gave that response, "ohh man that Connecticut thing sucked. Well, there's really nothing we can do to stop this from happening again no matter what we do." I mean, they have to look like they're doing something, but what should they do? Society depends on an agreement that we all have not to be evil, but it's pretty easy to screw that up. Heck, I walk on the sidewalk every day, but all it takes is one person to just decide to jump the curb and run us all down; it's the same with guns.

Giving more guns to more people just starts an arms race. Why bring a pistol to a room with a pistol wielding teacher when you can bring a semi-automatic rifle with body armor?

Roughly one half of all Americans own a gun. You'd figure with such a high number of people we'd have fewer deaths from firearms in this country with the NRA's logic. Arm more people and less people will die?! In what world does that make any sense? Remember the term 'road rage?' A gun will do nothing to stop a determined individual.

Next thing you know you'll be suggesting we arm students to 'protect' them.

The UK has guns, just like Germany and France and Italy and in Switzerland about every male has an assault rifle.

True, less guns per capita than the US, but the murder rate in Europe with a gun is lower by a factor larger than that of gun ownership. Meaning although there are less guns than in the US there is not less gun violence, there is far far far less gun violence.

So to achieve the rates of gun violence we see in Europe, the same measures must be taken. Meaning not guns must be banned, but the way they are stored and used must be regulated. In Germany and I am sure in other countries too, you are obligated to keep the gun in a gun cabinet that fulfills certain standards. Then there are regulations on moving guns too. Gun control does not mean no guns.

Biigs, from what I have observed thus far the elementary/middleschool age children are exposed to violence and aggression already from video games / action movies / and some weapon related toys from super soakers to paintball guns to pellet or airsoft guns. So basically what im saying is the youth are already exposed to guns and the violence they cause and how they can protect. With that unfortunatly in these times it may be time to arm school police or a private sector branch personnel to protect school grounds. Maybe they could park out of site or have hidden unseen offices in school buildings unaccessable to no other then guards. As a parent 1 has extreme compassion for the issue but I feel many parents need to wake up and realize the reality at hand and decide to either take all the guns or find better ways to secure them somehow like I mentioned in my last thread. And once the parents awake to the reality that these school areas need protection maybe a solution will be found... I dont think teachers need to be armed because they need to concentrate on intelligence and shouldnt have to handle primary saftey concernes, but do feel in these times where a maniac demon can legally obtain weapons to disribute ill lower vibrating activities upon others or even worst when a schoolage youth can illegally obtain a firearm and intimidate their school peers that its time to arm and protect these areas..

The funny thing is, that's a true statement.

However, it's like saying that if we make heads illegal, then the only people with heads will be the criminals.

Laws by society are created for all, but it is only the law abidding that respect those laws.

The criminals and the insane care not about laws.

So what is humanity to do now?

Arming themselves is the only solution right now as an interim measure. The bigger issue is how we should and MUST deal with criminal and mental issues.

Mankind had 5000 years of recorded history. Had that history EVER spoke of us living in Utopia? NEVER!!!!

Best we be pragmatic. Banning guns is the MOST IDIOTIC solution EVER. It only ensures criminals and the insane unfetted access to continued slaughter of our innocent next generations to make us bow to them. For centuries prior to the invention of the gun, innocent ancestors had been equally if not more, slaughtered as usual.

No one wants armed guards, EVEN in the white house, for it only proves a weakness. But then, think logically, HAD we mankind FULLY evolved and ERADICATED crime and mental ISSUES? NONE!!!. No country can make that claim except for tyrannies such as Russia, China and Iran. They simply slaughter anyone - man, women and child that dares oppose their tyranny of humanity as well as their middle finger to human rights.

Regardless of guns or knives, criminals and insane will care less anything in the face of obstacles. Best we humanity wake up to that fact and try to find geniune ways to END the pain and suffering. The past generations had tried their best, and now it is up to us this generation to follow up as best as we can, so that the next generation be free from the pain and sufferings we had lived through.....

Remember always the Tetris game. It is a divine message sent if ever one is sent. It is the ROOTS, that mankind have to deal with pragmatically and intelligently so that NONE be left behind, or like the Tetris game, it will be game over for all humanity.

The ROOTS had already longed be deifned by the mainstream religious faithfuls as well as even progressive atheists. As a society that seeks to progress and evolve, we CANNOT and MUST not be as cold as the scientific and technological advances we had acheived, or only bloodshed awaits till the last man remains on our planet.....

Little kids ran around responsibly with muskets back in colonial times.... and America would still be hailing the Queen of England if it wasn't for the citizens ownership of firearms..... you cannot take them away.
