So I just stood my ground against a mob of communist morons trying to forcibly close me down today.

...discuss their ideology and mine (which is vaguely Anarcho-Libertarian but don't tell anyone) until the cows come home...

The term "Anarcho-Libertarian" is redundant. Libertarian traditionally referred to Anarchists (typically Socialists) and not free-market right wing industrialists.

If you're thinking of "Anarcho"-Capitalism, that is an oxymoron.

Please read:

Is my lack of "political purity" showing? Oops, how "ideologically unsound" of me...

Sorry about that.

It's not about purity, it's about BS versus reality.

Fascist or not, I think most people in Spain just try to see the enormous good he did FOR the country. I am not the biggest fan of Franco but like you said, both sides did terrible things. Franco at least tried to look out for his countries best interests. Also it could be said that the application of law now is fascist in Spain.

Law now is applied to every facet of a persons life, heavy taxes are levied, personal property and privacy is a thing of the past, and the government does what it pleases without the consent of the governed. That is fascist as well.

But the greater good is not oriented towards the prosperity of the nation, instead it is oriented towards the EU and not the Spanish people themselves.

Yes, of course ultra-nationalist fascists have a history of gaining SOME benefit for a nation, they're OBSESSED with these notions. But this is like selling your soul to the devil. The destiny of a fascist nation is sculpted by the lone dictator and/or group of fascists and NOT the actual people of the country (as enamored as they might be with the bright new fascist future and its propaganda). Tyranny is NOT worth the gains in ego and prosperity.

You may be fascinated to read about George Orwell's (author of 1984) Homage To Catalonia:

and

George Orwell was NO friend of Communists OR Fascists. He WAS, however, quite fond of Anarchists.

yes.

He was part of the Workers' Party for Marxist Unification (POUM — Partido Obrero de Unificación Marxista), and was part of the fight by the democratically elected Republican government against the fascists under Franco.

Homage to Catalonia is Orwell's speaks of his involvement in Spain, He was shot and could not fight anymore.

I have read some of his work. I "know about" his involvement in the civil war here, though I never read homage to Catalonia.

Fascists emerged because the Marxist insurgency was still bringing in people into the country to overthrow the government. Elections were not possible because the same fiasco with the elections as before where they stole them by intimidation and coercion.

The republic was convinced it could stomp out all armed opposition, and the Government forces under Franco thought they could win in less than a few months. Both were wrong.

The anarchists would have failed in Spain because they failed to produce an even minimal land reform. They had no idea how to distribute land other than by seizing it for a collective use. What happens when your collective grows and you need more land and there are no more people who have "too much" to steal from? Do you seize it from a smaller collective or a single person?

That was one of the biggest criticisms of the Republic. It talked a good game but while in power it did NOTHING to address the issues that were foremost to the common man.

Franco was chiefly concerned with keeping the country together since the Marxist insurgency was stirring things up in Catalonia like is being done now. It is no secret that most Cataluñians like the idea of independence but prefer to live their lives without such problems. People here make note that the biggest proponents of independence in Cataluñia are not from there originally.

Franco was also concerned with modernizing the country, building infrastructure and public works. He set up a standardized educational system that brought education to rural areas that did not have it, as well as other social programs that only benefited the people. He could have been more of a jerk, but he just wanted his country to prosper. He failed by trying to keep an isolationist policy for the countries economy while trying to promote just tourism.

All in all, he made Spain what it is. He didn't promise the world and then give them nothing. He kept his word, good and bad. HE was frank....lol. Franco was....

the Marxists just wanted to stir up trouble and get people killed in their grab for power. Marxism is one of the least favored forms of communism for its extremism and violent tendencies as well as its advocacy for "anything goes"...even among communists.

more proof protesting should be illegal. protesters are never peaceful and they are never kind. nonviolent? yes. but never peaceful. they must be stopped with non deadly force. rioters on the other hand need to be slaughtered.

I am in Asturias,

Franco is still Taboo, though I have heard comments from disenfranchised people asking if maybe we were not better off before. His "brutality" during the civil war really isn't enough to keep people from wondering anymore, especially since the other side was worse.

We are certain that the EU and the Euro have been the worst thing to happen to us. The autonomous provincial governments are a sham and are hemorrhaging money like it was pressurized air.

The peseta and our traditional values were not that bad. Maybe they needed some modernization, but Spain still needs that, sooooo.....

I think Franco will continue to be weighed as an enormous benefit to the country as a whole.

I want to relocate out there to Vigo or Pontevedra but not sure how... I live in the US.
But damn, if it's all crazy like that there right now......

Congrats on your buisness though. And stay strong.

avoid Spain man. Avoid Europe in general. People are immigrating out of here like crazy. Now is not the time. Worse to come. I am on my way out myself.

If you had not considered it, try south America. I hear Spaniards moving there are doing OK...

Good luck bro. Thanks..

Yeah I have some family in Mexico as well.
But it is terrible there too. But at least they still hold the high tradition of bull fighting.

Where would you suggest in South America?
Argentina?

Chile....they are really well mannered, educated and always have their stuff together.

Argentina is horrible. Very bad in almost every aspect. NO NO NO.

Mexico has problems but you can find a job, eventually buy a house or rent cheap, and life is not too shabby.

I would try mexico city, if you have an education of any kind. If not, another part of the country with some sort of larger city near by.

Also Colombia is getting better from what I hear.

Anywhere really if you have an education and speak the language. Just visit before you move. It can be on either end of the spectrum of expectations.

Argentina, no.
