I don't know how it fits in, if at all.
But when I was in spain (spent a month working), I noticed something and was confirmed by the head of GM Cartihenia (murdered that spelling)...
Basically, if you weren't one of the upper class or filthy rich, then you were pretty much poor.

Was odd driving down a major highway, then it suddenly stop, turn into a dirt road, and some near 3rd world shantytown pop up where you had to drive through...sewage pipes just stopped suddenly and raw fecal odor pungent in the air..then you get to a tourist trap city and it is nice, but only around areas tourists may frequent.

Looked like a lot of wealth disparity to me.

I don't know the politics there..but unions initially helped out developed nations gain a overall better of quality life for people. Do be careful when rejecting all unions..from what ops noted, this one seemed more about empowering themselves than the people...but it is high time that spain and many other countries have a good and strong peoples union to get some basic structure established. less poor = more contribution for society.

Whoa Boy! Whoooaaaah! Go back and re-read my posts before you go railroading me for something you "think" I may have written. You're so darned busy fending off the attacks of others that you're also punching one of the guys that has been giving you some amount of benefit of the doubt here. All I did was point out that you mentioned your "NY blood". I never once spoke up for unions (and I never will). Personally, I despise unions and all that they stand for. And yes, I am very aware of the problems in Spain (one of the countries from which I have stamps in my passport book).

Never once did I even insinuate that I didn't agree with you. Go punch someone else.

I don’t want to argue. You have your opinion I have mine.

I already said that even the bad unions do some good. That goes without saying that the good I see them do is weighed in my mind with the evil I see them do.

I have come to the conclusion after 5 years here, and a lifetime of visiting that they do more harm than good.

There may be instances of great good, but compared to the repeated instances of great evil, I say they use one to mask the other.

That said, not all union people are bad. The goodies can’t be given to everyone.

What I find the single most identifying common thread between them all is their political ideology.

If you notice I have BARELY even touched communism in this thread, or any of my posts for the most part. I am vehemently against Marxist communism. I CAN tolerate moderates of any ideology. ANY....

I only call them communists because that is what they are. If anything people have assumed I meant that as an insult by being always on the defensive about the subject. I could talk about what I really think about communism, but that would make me seem rude since I couldn’t say very many positive things about it.

When I say communist, I am simply referring to their self identifying ideology. They have no problem being called communists, hence the banners, slogans, and what not. I imply nothing. I described what happened as honestly and accurately I could within my limited capacity that I can offer. I am not confused about anything. I may not be skilled in articulating my ideas as well as I thought is all.

When I say people like this are as corrupt as wall street brokers it is because they seek to make permanent negative change to the country in incremental builds that goes AGAINST the people. If anyone here on ATS has been seeing the pattern of social engineering our society suffers, and its gradual incremental changes that go unnoticed they realize the truly malicious nature of it all.

Take for example the push for internet censorship and royalties. Here the small business is being extorted by royalties collection agencies as has been done in all our countries. The source of this greed for charging the little guy for the simple act of having a little radio in a hair salon, or a TV in a bar, or some music in a cafe does not come from the right wing "capitalists". No, it comes from he Extremists of either side of the spectrum who support vast public expenditure with little oversight.

Here in Spain, S.G.A.E, is the entity in charge of collecting from EVERY small business for the mentioned acts of playing some FREE or already paid for media like a TV you already pay for, or a radio that broadcasts freely, or music you already paid for, ect.....This extortion was thought up, designed, and pushed for as well as ultimately implemented and administered by people who happen to hold Marxist communist ideologies.

The former president of SGAE, Teddy Bautista, was caught along with the leadership of SGAE embezzling HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF EUROS. That is space program money. That is an astronomical amount of money to have the balls to steal. This guy, Teddy Bautista is a Marxist communist. He said that as he was growing older he was leaning towards being an anarchist. Oh how progressive of him. The supposed defender of the people is WORSE than an outright A-hole out to get his and only his.

You know what that money was stolen for, besides living like a sultan? To fund more lobbying and social engineering to change Spain into the communist state they always wanted here.

Much of it is still unrecovered and no one knows exactly how much is missing. I have heard every where from at least 400 million euros, to 811 MILLION! This money stolen from the little guy in times of extreme need, lost. The culprits were not "big bad capitalists" It was an extremist communist not content to simply believe what he thought best, but obsessed with the change of everyone possible by any means necessary to his ideology and that of his little beady eyed friends.

Sociedad General de Autores y Editores (SGAE) is the main collecting society for songwriters, composers and music publishers in Spain. It is similar to ASCAP. The composer and performer Teddy Bautista is the Chairman of the Board of Directors. The SGAE was founded in 1941 as General Society of Authors of Spain. In 1995 its name changed to Society of Authors and Publishers, seeking to accommodate cultural editors.

The SGAE has been involved in several controversies, like charging a fine of 96€ to a middle school for trying to make a theatrical play whose rights belonged to Federico García Lorca's heirs. The SGAE denied access to any information or communication to the owners of the rights to the school. The school administrators by their own account finally found the copyright holders, the Centro Dramático Nacional, (whose responsibles weren't informed of the situation at all by their SGAE representatives) and they gladly agreed to the school petition without any charge. However, the SGAE replied that they only acted like intermediaries and had no authority to stop demanding the payment for the copyright of registered works, unless the author or the owners requested so.

Finally, Lorca’s nephew, Manuel Fernández Montesinos, contacted the Ramón Menéndez Pidal middle school to inform that they could play "Bodas de sangre" without any charges. A few days later, Montesinos wrote again to the School Principal refusing to lose the copyright's tax since the play was to be represented in a professional theatre and not at the school.

The SGAE has also claimed copyright for works of authors deceased more than 70 years ago at the time of the claim, a condition that, under European law, deems the works to be of public domain. According to the councils of Zalamea de la Serena (Badajoz) and Fuente Obejuna (Córdoba),the company claimed 24,000 and 30,000 euros respectively to represent the classic Spanish dramas "El alcalde de Zalamea" and "Fuenteovejuna", whose authors died centuries ago. The problem arises from the fact that many of the represented classic plays are adaptations to current Spanish from original work’s ancient language, so in these cases a collection of fees is required from the adapter. In both cases the SGAE rejected the accusations and stated that, in the case of Zalamea de la Serena, the requested quantity was 95 euros.

A common description of SGAE by independent songwriters in Spain is that the organization is made up of pirates who prefer to keep and spend royalty money owed to the writers.

[edit] Embezzlement investigation

In 1 July 2011 eight members of the SGAE, including the president, Teddy Bautista, were arrested and charged with embezzlement.[11] The Investigation Committee estimated that as much as 87 million Euros were embezzled directly or indirectly from 1997 to 2011.[12]

they want to charge me almost 300 Euros a year for having a TV on in my cafe. I shut it off and told them to go to hell.

they don't give even 1% of what they collect to any authors or editors. I don't think they give anything at all actually.

Former president of SGAE, Teddy Bautista, who is in jail for the embezzlement of millions of Euros. He is Marxist in case you were wondering, the board of directors at SGAE liked his cut. He wants for the government to give money to artists and for them not to collect directly from their work. Nice model for society don't you think?

"Mire, yo, como decía Vázquez Montalbán, soy un marxista en fase de descompresión anarquista. Preferiría ir hacia un modelo de autorregulación. Pero hasta que no llegue ese momento o el Estado no subvencione a los artistas como a los del sector del lino, toca defenderse"

"Look, I, as said by Vázquez Montalbán, I am a Marxist in an anarchist decompression phase. I would rather things progress into a model of self-regulation. But until that time comes or the state begins to subsidize artists as those in the flax industry, we must defend"

So this is the type of person who is spearheading the intellectual property rights movement. Your so called "equal and fair" socialist, and extremist communist idealists only want to get in leadership so as to not work and live off your work. Their "defense" of the common man is the exploitation of him.

Keep promoting socialist ideals and communist rhetoric of the common man. I am a common man these criminals want to hit up for 300 Euros of protection money.

Late last week, we wrote about the corruption-driven raids on the Spanish music collection society SGAE, and the arrest of its boss, Teddy Bautista. Over the weekend, more details have come out. Jose Luis Campanello points us to the news that officials believe that SGAE execs may have diverted approximately $550 million (US) to their own (or others) profits, at the expense of the actual musicians who should have received that money (Google translation of the original Spanish). ts.shtml

and that is just one example. Spanish society is riddled with this crap.....

Thanks for that post. It was enlightening. We here in the US hear about "austerity" measures levied on the people in the Eurozone but have little direct knowledge of why this is so. I can see from you post that the corruption at the top is rife. No wonder people are pouring into the street protesting.

Hopefully they aren't infiltrated by government "operatives" too much and your business stays safe.

Well my point of view seems like a rant because it comes from me, who is not very supportive of their "cause".

It is not news, in so much as it is not news that Europe is riddled with protests every single day.

It is in the social unrest forum because it is appropriate

I would not use a gun. I am not against gun ownership, all the contrary. I am for responsible gun ownership though. Idiots make inherent rights into privileges we have to ask permission to have when they act irresponsibly. A weapon is a big responsibility you don’t use or keep like a pair of shoes.

That said, you are right, there is little I can do against a Mob. I am trained in martial arts. I am not jet lee over here, but I can win a fair fight with most people not trained, hands down. The way I see it, there are only a few of these goons I have to watch out for. They are also the back bone of the problems I will have. It all boils down to a couple guys that the rest rely on for their sense of power. These couple guys rely on everyone else for their sense of power.

A sense of power is an illusion. I don’t need to shoot them to break their illusion.

An unfair fight without weapons is winnable, but you can’t count on that. Next time I will be a little smarter and use the time I have now to prepare. I don’t need to fight fighters. I need to deny them battle.

Neutralize their strengths.

I need to put them in a talking situation, and the talkers into a fighting situation. None will go into uncharted waters since as I said, they are essentially cowards that need each other’s strengths.

I will not say what I have planned since that would be dumb. I will post if it works come new years eve, or not if it is not even necessary. Which might be the case.....working on that too. I have my mind besides my fists.

By the way, I only condone the use of guns personally if I am faced with someone brandishing a gun.

My theory of the art of war is an act of neutralization. Not of creating an enemies defeat, but rather creating MY victory. If that makes sense.

I have a feeling anyways that they aren’t going to bother me anymore. Just a hunch. I have a big mouth and a gift for psychological warfare. They have an obvious weakness, they can’t afford bad press from harassing a waiter, business owner or not, during a march for OUR rights.....any other day maybe that is not an advantage for me, but here it is.....

what exactly are you basing that on? I have not lied or even misrepresented anything and even gave examples of WHY I feel the way I do.

You are appearing as Amero-phobic and ignorant as you accuse me of being commu-phobic and ill informed.

So you are saying that Marxist communism isn’t an extremist ideology and unattractive to even other communists? Because that is the type of communism I repeatedly refer to. Please do some research before blathering and see for yourself the roots of and current state of, Marxist communism in Spain.

Also it should be noted that Marxist communism looks at socialism as a necessary peg in the process in the establishment of a purely, truly Marxist state. It sees it as an opportunity for Marxist insurgency and targets it. It also says that REVOLUTION is the only viable means of change. Sane right? Nothing bad there......

I am sorry if you advocate revolution you are an insane lunatic that doesn’t give a crap about the countless people that die, and suffer during one. If so, You are a Jerk that thinks untested noble (naive) ideologies are enough to risk the well being of a country and its people whom you obviously care very little about. I say naive in the lesser extreme and down right evil, two faced, and vile in its most extreme case.

You know HOW the dictatorship was over thrown in Spain? By dialogue and intelligence. NO REVOLUTION.

They drafted a constitution, and said THIS is what we want. No burning the wealthy people´s houses, hanging them and slaughtering their children. They didn’t hunt and torture everyone opposed to their change. They didn’t engulf the country into violent revolt destroying it in the process. NO.

They used their brain like people and avoided extremists who wanted to act like animals.

So your noble ideals NEED blood? Because if you are a Marxist communist then you can most certainly peg me with whatever insult you want, because I think you are future criminal that needs to be dealt with. You would rape and murder a whole family because of their political ideology. That is what the communists did to part of my family during the Spanish civil war. The ROJOS came into our city which had held out against all odds, while being surrounded by enemy territory, and they took over one of our relatives house. They raped and murdered everyone because they had too much. They didn’t steal it, they worked hard for it. They were innocent non combatants.

So next time find out who you are talking to. I will not be tolerant with potential murders and opportunists. Not one iota.

Marxists all have a double standard where they say they will fight to defend the common man, but ruthlessly kill him if he doesn’t agree with them. Even if he is in the majority and democratically chooses not to.

You are an animal if you support that sort of methodology and system of rule. I am then in fact your enemy. Thanks for clearing that up. This "Yankee" is a traditional American in that respect. Just not for the reasons you ignorantly assign to me.

no, but, yes.

I wouldn´t .

There was a whole bunch of weapons that were stolen from a military base not to long ago/ or for a while up to a short time ago. Weapons are fairly easy to get here in Spain. They never confiscated everything and there still are legal owners. The black market sales are also a factor. Many Russian mob bosses retire here for some reason and they keep the black market brimming with guns. Eastern gangs and immigrants also facilitate the supply.

I wouldn’t get one unless I heard shots fired. If a dumb ass thing happened I guess I would get something until I could get back to the states. I have a family to worry about.

I dont like the idea of owning illegal weapons that might not even be clean. It would have to be a SHTF scenario for me to arm myself.

Day to day, even with these morons doesnt call for it. I dont need it.

You are misusing the terminology anarchist. They may claim to be anarchists but they are actually tyrants.

You claimed to have no solid party affiliation, aside of your own common sense. This is far closer to true definition anarchy as "Archy" means "Rule", and "An" means "Against".
So "Against Rule" literally.

The uncivilized types always seek to use force and intimidation to coerce others into submission to their demands. This is an attempt to rule others. Free peoples who believe in free markets, civil liberty, basic civility, equality, etc, are in fact anarchist libertarians by definition according to root words.

The problem with society is that these terms are misused to no end, attached to folks who are the complete opposite, and then the basic terminology is stigmatized to no end unfairly.

This thread should face the issue that most workers will be replaced by robots in the near future and unions will mean nothing. Try and unionize your robot brothers. This point is nearly mute for about 75% of union jobs within the next 10 years or so.

Foxcomm is eying the idea so it is not that far off:
