For a lot of people, yes.

There was even a member on here not too long ago that was upset over the fact that his Texas town now had a Mosque in it.

It's fear.

Muslims, Christians, Democrats, Republicans, you, me...we're all guilty of it at times.
I think it is biologically natural and can set up a good inner challenge for your spirit if you choose to tackle it head on.

Sometimes I lose myself in the darkness but ultimately I'm up for the challenge.

A McDonald's, perhaps?

I completely agree. The squeaky wheel get's the grease, or in Muslims' case the infamous get the fame. It's darn shame too. I've been to college with many Muslim people and most of them were really nice, helpful, compassionate and generous individuals. And like you said you can't blame anybody but the perpetrator. But it certainly doesn't help the mentally unstable when the media puts a twist on the truth.

That is a Fox News fan. That channel is psychotic. It's a clown show, faces yakking to an invisible crowd, faces debating; and it's always the same big mouths. So that is the end result of watching TV. He wanted to shut up the things they were complaining about.

Maybe it was a sympathy play, like somehow the judge or jury watches the same stuff.

This wouldn't have happened if he watched C-SPAN. He would be looking up laws and reading books, not blowing things up like his TV mentors.

These suicidal kids who want to make a mark should pick there targets more wisely..

Now, what IF, someone actually was inspired by that, and at their trial explained to a judge that they did it because of a post they read on ATS?

Is it ATS at fault, or the poster, or the criminal?

Serious questions.

If someone wasn't murdered 20 years is an extreme sentence and I would never allow government to operate in any fashion it pleases. Did people die in the fire? Property does not compare on any scale to sexual abuse of children, rape, or murder. It doesnt scream in the night and religious property gets no extra special perks that way.

3 years would be more appropriate, 1/3 good behavior, probation and counseling for years. Though I would personally put people who do not rape, murder, or seriously harm others on bracelets, with counseling, community service for a bit too. Because, don't want prisons filled with anyone except psycho's, ie repeat criminals.

You forget the religious protection laws in the country. Hurting clergy gets more time than hurting non-clergy. Hurting a peaceful religious establishment gets more time than typical. It was a hate crime against a religion. Meaning if he doesn't get his years for doing this, he'll be out, and next time, not getting caught. 3 years is a vacation between acts of religious terrorism, after he gave up his reason and reputation with the arson where he got caught. He was made an example.

FOX is not the press. It's a bunch of actors who spew their uneducated opinions. They know they're causing untold damage to America (and the world), but because they make a lot of money doing so, they don't care.

You see, this is an actual physical example of what happens when you mix individual ignorance and poor-critical thinking skills with a manipulative, entertainment-based news cycle that has sacrificed objective reporting(or at least even a minusculeattempt at objective reporting) for commercialized profit-driven editorializing.

Craig Silverman in his book Regret the Error gives an account of a time when Fox News gave the address of terrorist on the air once. It was the address of the Muslim who created a Muslim preaching group. Ironically, he moved out of the house months before leading to someone else receiving the terrorist title. The worst harrassment he received was when an illiterate vandal spray painted "TERRIST" on his house.

I watch Fox News for my comedy

I agree that Fox News is just one of many propaganda machines but your suggestion that they should be held accountable for what this idiot did is about as ignorant as his own actions.

Here, allow me to spell it out for you. It's called individual responsibility. Yeah, it's really that simple. Fox is not to blame for what this nutcase did. Guns are not to blame for what that other lunatic did. Nobody is to blame for whatever another person does other than in very rare cases.

I would argue that you, and any other people who share your assumption, should seek some medical help in order to prevent any of you misled finger pointers from doing any harm to free speech if god forbid you ever were to gain a position of power.

With that being said, have a great day though.

Fox News is the only mainstream broadcast media not supporting the socialist agenda. If you slam Fox News, you are a socialist sympathizer, plain and simple. If this were 1930s Germany, you would be a nazi.

This [post is funny on a forum where most of the members get their news from what amounts to a Democrat party propaganda machine.

And i suppose you can back that up with some kind of evidence?, personally. i don't regard *anything* ANY of the lame-stream media packages up for the daily bite size psycho trauma rolling news spews into the airwaves, as being pallatable.
My personal point of view in bringing this was to show the sheer unbelievability in the reasoning process of a self confessed fox news viewer.
Someone that certainly did not attempt to verify the voracity of the information he was being served, and yet believed it strongly enough to commit a major crime with all the hallmarks of reckless endangerment to life and utter dis-compassionate feelings for the potential loss of life that is remarkably similar to the destructive unthinking behaviour seen in bigots and "Believers" of [insert favourite brand of dogma that requires acts of violence from the faithful for no good reason] the world over.

A news station that has 24/7/365 access to the living rooms of potentially all of america, has today been revealed by a patron of its "News" services to be peddling perfidy with such lamentable success, that something akin to brainwashing has taken place in at least 2 members of its viewership.
This is dangerous, A news service should exhibit some form of social responsibility, so many news services have become little more than obviously propagandised outlets.

News has become little more than an exercise in slaking peoples intolerances, whilst stoking them with unnecessary animosities.
Some news stations have successfully become eloquent in the art of divide and conquer, someone that implies another person is wrong because they are listening to "Liberal" news sources, are exhibiting aspects of eminent belief that only appears through being led to believe that this somehow is wrong and they are right, that in some way the thinking process has been conquered, another mind captured and enraptured in the mindless them and us divide news services foment so well, whilst being loaded with the intolerance that enables them to believe such a thing is correct and they are right.

All politics is BS, as such most news is BS as it in some way is hi-jacked by one side or the other as a means to convey belligerence, people need to step beyond the false partisanship politics engenders, and just begin to regard every other person on the planet as a brother or sister, all religion aside, all politics aside, then we wouldn't see "Agencies" such as fox news so expertly being able to create an atmosphere of division that was strong enough for someone to throw their own life away.

Well, before you even get to the idiotic statement regarding the arsonists news viewing habits, lets examine his admission regarding his alcohol intake?

FORTY FIVE BEERS!!! Not four more beers, not one for the road. Forty bloody five beers in six hours! The man should have been on the floor, twitching like a dreaming dog, not walking around with flammable materials and setting fire to a building! His blood alcohol level ought to have been so high that the only way to avoid a serious collapse of his nervous system would have been a stomach pump! A shame that a person with such fortitude as to withstand that intoxicant onslaught, can only bring woe to his countrymen in such a state.

Now, to the matter at hand. I feel that where Fox News is concerned, there are several things to note.

1)Yes, its true, Fox News has about the same respect for the facts, and the truth, as I have for the Roman Catholic Church. That is to say, abso-bloody-loutely none. This is evidenced by the fact that Fox have repeatedly misrepresented reality on several issues over the years, always supporting a right wing agenda, and using every oppertunity to attack the left.

2)They are one of the largest news organisations on this planet, and rather than using that power responsibly and equally, they have actively pursued a corperate agenda that has nothing to do with anything, other than selling thier product, getting thier anchors on the screens of the worlds television viewers, and licking the boots of any company or individual who has a measure of money, power or prestige about them.

3)In fairness however, where a person gets thier news does not excuse thier ignorance of reality. I live in an area where The Sun is more widely read than The Guardian. Neither of these papers have anything to do with informing my political opinions, loyalites, or my ideological stand point on any subject. The correct way for a person to formulate a political stand point, is to observe reality for themselves, without prejudice, and THEN see what everyone else is saying about it. To do otherwise is to be lead by the nose, and no matter who is doing the leading, that is never EVER acceptable.

I think people apologise for the patheticisms of thier fellow man all to often these days, and this story is nothing more than that. "Aww, look at the poor dumb man ape, Fox made him do it." Fox didnt make this man stupid, lazyminded and blinkered. He did that to himself, by allowing a corperation to do his higher level thinking for him, and that was a choice he made at some point, not something that has been finnessed away from him, not a con he got on the wrong side of. Its no different to what McDonalds do. People know they shouldnt eat that tasteless, bland, processed and utterly valueless crap, served by the chain, and that it is bad for them. I cannot therefore, shed tears for them when thier bloated, and outrageously oversized carcasses get loaded into packing crates and buried.

Similarly, I do not feel the least bit sorry for this intellectually absent idiot. His actions were an outrage, his reasoning faulty, and his attitude to taking responsibility for his inexplicable actions is utterly unacceptable. I will say this though. If he dies in prison, it is likely to result in a nett increase in the IQ of the state he lives in as an average, due to his removal.

Fingers crossed eh?

I despise the media as much as anyone else, but to ban lies? I hope you are just Using Hyperbole.

So who gets to determine what is lies and what is truth? What gives them the right to tell other people that they are either lying or telling the truth? The freedom of speech and expression comes with responsibility, if people abuse that then there is nothing we can rightfully do to stop them. We can call them out, we can counter them and we can tell them that they are wrong. But to Censor them? We run the risk of having that same system of censorship used against us. I can't stand Westboro Baptist for example especially since people will lump me in with them because i am merely christian. But you know what? It is their right to be crazy, and it is my right to not listen to them. People have the basic right to hold and express opinion no matter how crazy or wrong you or i may think it to be. It is our duty as free-thinking individuals to hold each other accountable for our actions and statements. This doesn't mean we imprison or censor each other, but we should call each other out and let others know why we disagree with them.

Anyways i think you get my point.

Do you really believe that your statement is logical? You don't think there are conservatives out there that hate Fox News?

I'm not a big fan of Fox News personally, however I use their website as a counter balance to any other media outlet I go to. You have to admit that Fox is just as bad as any other main stream news media source, they are just another political mouth piece they are not journalists.

If this were 1930s Germany, you would be a nazi.

Actually no I would not, because I'm not a fascist. You can go around and keep spreading the lie that Nazi Germany was a socialist nation, but despite them having only a "few" social programs that were started to encourage people to support the Nazi party, they were a Nationalist Fascist state. They believed in private ownership of property, they believed in gun rights (the only restriction was handguns, but all weapons were seized by the allies in 1945), but all these rights were reserved for those who supported the state. The "socialist" in the National Socialist German Workers' Party was just a buzz word to recruit people, another deception by Hitler and his executives.

People who have done there research (actually reading the Koran instead of listening to talking heads on any tv station) know that the problem with Muslims is in the teachings of Muhammad. The Koran is full of verses promoting violence against non believers (infidels) like you and me. The true devout Muslims are the ones that want us to die. The non violent Muslims are often sympathetic to the violent ones because they know what Mohammed's teachings truly are.

The Koran is full of stuff like this. Perhaps it has some peaceful meaning that I am not intelligent enough to decipher.

Quran (8:39) - "And fight with them until there is no more fitna (disorder, unbelief) and religion should be only for Allah"

Quran (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them"

No reasonable person would interpret this to mean a spiritual struggle. Who is really being honest and who is blowing smoke?
