The presidential office has congratulated ruling Saenuri Party presidential contender Park Geun-hye on her victory in the 18th presidential election.

source

Presidential spokesman Park Jeong-ha on Wednesday said he sincerely congratulates Park on her victory together with the people and hopes the citizens’ great choice will lead to national unity and happiness amongst the people.

I find this to be good news, and interesting news...considering N.Korea's recent activities...

Good on South Korea for this first major step, in trying to bring some sort of rapprochement within the South Korean political spheres.

Here's a pictures of the new lady in charge, with her late father.

Acting Prime Minister Wayne Swan says the government is looking forward to working with South Korea's new leader.

source

There turn out at the polling stations was huge. With 94 per cent of the vote counted, Ms Park had received 51.6 per cent, compared with 48 per cent for her only rival, Moon Jae-in.

source

I for one think this is great news and wish Ms Park the very best in her new role as South Korea's President.

Ms Park was mobbed by flag-waving supporters outside her home in the Gangnam district of Seoul as it became clear she had fended off a late surge by Mr Moon. She later thanked her staff before making a brief appearance in front of crowds in central Seoul. Her victory, she said, was a sign that the country's economy would recover.

Indeed.

That same thought went through my mind...

I wonder what Mr ( and I use that term loosely) Kim Jong-un has to say about this...

Time will tell.

If you consider who her father was... I am not sure if this was a good choice.

Asia turn pretty much into a lot of conservative states. I think this is not a good way to go

If they thought they had troubles with North Korea before, wait till you see what happens next. NK has always been a bully to SK, ...and now they have a girl to Bully around. There is no way NK will take SK seriously now. I know women will not want to hear this but let's face it,....they way they live over there...it's the truth.. SK has just turned up the heat for itself as NK will see this as a weakness.

I wonder how long it will be before N. Korea decides to poke the new S. Korean president with a stick? "Lil' Kim" hates S. Korea, and I don't think he has much respect for women at all. It shouldn't be long before he "throws a rock" at her to see how she reacts. I have a feeling he will be in for a big surprise!

any bet's lil kim get's sent to bed
with no supper for playing with his rockets
without permission?

This should be a interesting time, lil kim may have
met his match.
The next few weeks should be interesting to watch.

just to add quick personal note for lil kim...

ya know its hard to take someone seriously who is
his age and sports a hair cut that looks like it belongs
on a 12 yr old boy.....

sorry, just had to add

Fair play! I love women... If I wasn't a man I'd definately be a woman

But really its good to see, I must be one of the only people here who has a soft spot for N. Korea...as in my hometown we share great memories of hosting them in the 1966 World Cup, It's a weird friendship, but we're proud of it as N. Koreans who still sing about the connection to this day.

Peace and Love

Her father was a great man and brought a starving, pathetic, 3rd world country to the top ranks of global economy. He was ruthless, but he did what he had to do. My homeland has turned into a cesspool of money hungry, superficial zombies that worship the rich and beautiful while condemning the poor and ugly. I can only hope his daughter will be half as good as her father was.
