Lockheed Martin has recently released video of an ADAM (Area Defense Anti-Munitions) test, on December 10, 2012. The test used an unarmed tethered rocket, fired along a cable at 1.6km from the laser. Target acquisition, to destruction of the target took about 3 seconds.

The ADAM system uses a 10 kilowatt fiber laser, with an effective range of about 2 miles. They have successfully hit unmanned aerial targets at 0.9 miles, and small caliber rockets at 1.2 miles.

It's hardly an Estes rocket, and it didn't just explode. The laser did just what it was supposed to, and destroyed the warhead.

Another test using an 11ft wingspan Osprey UAV.
