Love Affair?

For a long time now I have considered the BBC to be a third rate at best news channel but what one reporter just said when covering the prommulgated Assault Weapons Bill shocked even me with its ineptitude, He actually said will the proposed bill end America's love affair with the gun?.

First the bill is not designed as far as I can tell to remove all guns from the American people, and secondly although I would not claim to know exactly how people in the US describe their relationship to firearms I would be prepared to bet that wether pro, or anti "love affair" is about as inaccurate as it is possible to be.
