Guns are not the problem. Why don't you post the numbers on homicides in general? Knife attacks, beatings, bats, hammers, cars, poison....
Guns will always be here. If not in our hands they will always be owned by criminals. How many murders do you think are committed by legitimate registered gun owners? Why focus on the instrument and not the person? Because of course people are not responsible for crap anymore. There is a syndrome or illness that explains away everything and excuses everything. There is a much deeper issue than guns at play here. First off parents refuse to discipline their children and hold them accountable anymore. This has given us a generation of people that do not recognize consequences of their ways. Second off, our mental health system is shot. Too often doctors dismiss their patients with harsh drugs and refuse to determine the root of the problems. It is very difficult for most hard working people to get mental health care in the first place. And third off, we have let the wealthy business owners and politicians rape our country by extorting every possible resource from it. We have massive layoffs and send our jobs overseas. Heck General Motors took $750 million in TARP funds and built a $750 million dollar plant in Mexico. There are far too many people unemployed for far too long in the US. That causes major stress. Put together a spoiled brat with no proper mental health care and not able to find a job and you have a ticking time bomb.
I will add to the equation that for the last 10 years or so the atheists in this country have pissed and moaned enough that we are finally giving in and have removed God from just about every aspect of public life to keep from offending people. It's odd to me that our government has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to refurbish Islamic mosques overseas but we can't even pray a Christian prayer in public anymore. We worship celebrities and have shows called American Idol, but cannot worship God. We were forced to remove Bibles from schools and government buildings. A book that says thou shall not commit murder and shall not lie or steal. Yet we idolize people like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. The world stopped turning when Anna Nicole Smith (a porn star) died. You will be hard pressed to turn on a movie or tv show and not see sex, nudity, or killings. I went to the movies and the people in the theater watching Saw were laughing at someone getting heinously murdered.
DO NOT BLAME OUR PROBLEMS ON GUNS

Please point to one mass killing at a US school that used a car, bat, knife or even poison gas. Just one please. Guns are a very efficient killing tool, especially when automatic/semi-automatic weapons with large magazines are used. People want a hunting rifle or handgun for self defense, fine. But assault rifles are not needed for these purposes; if you think otherwise, you've been watching too many Hollywood movies.

Like I said in another comment here, I'm not lobbying for a total ban of firearms, but rather for more regulation of them as well as outlawing large-magazine clips and such. You don't need a 100-round clip for self defense, but 100-round clip is best for mowing down large numbers of people rapidly before the shooter can be overpowered.

American children are 13 times more likely to die of a gunshot than our children in other western, industrialized countries. Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Anna Nicole Smith are not to blame -- nor is Madonna for that matter.

You full-gun-freedom folks come up with some real doozies for arguments. Heard a South Carolina woman call up a NPR show to day, who defended guns and said there are 400,000 armed Russians in the Appalachians and that Satanic ritual murders of children are more of a problem that shootings in the US. Yes, fundamentalist gun righters live in Bizarro-world and expect rational people to buy their delusional and/or specious arguments.

www.cnn.com...
There's one link right off the bat for you. Again, why focus on the instrument and not the person. Also, do you realize that Adam Lanza's father and James Holmes' father were both set to testify before the US senate in the LIBOR hearings? Kinda odd huh? The assault rifle was never removed from the car. For one shooter to walk in and fire off that many rounds from two handguns is absurd. The medical examiner claims multiple gunshot wounds in every victim, some as many as 11. That's alot of rounds to be fired from two handguns. This is not a gun control issue. If someone wants to kill they will kill reguardless of what they have to use to do it.
