Just show him some hot chicks that need to be maintained, that would give him the urge to produce some money

I'd advise people NOT to scare their kids with this #. I'd never, ever bring it up with my children unless asked, and in that case I'd wink 'well, you never know'?

My mom believes in ghosts, or she did at some point at least, and for a few years as a kid, I had trouble sleeping because of her stories.

OP, kudos to you for acknowledging the problem yourself, but now you need to admit to him, that you don't anything about an alien invasion (which you don't), and gradually explain to him that you got caught up in some stories, and you got excited, but that it's just stories. And that's not a lie.

Remember: Kids are not your friends on ATS, they're kids and they're impressionable. Be the grown up, make them feel safe.

Kudos for volunteering the subject though!

With all the movies and such out, I have had such conversations with my son. I tell him that it is unlikely that UFO's would come here just do us harm. They would most likely come and help us design society and the economy into models that are fair and to the benefit all of humanity. I tell him that even in such an environment, work will still be required. Those with the proper skills will be able to do what they enjoy and those without will be forced to whatever job the state thinks is the best fit for them. As such it is worthwhile to obtain skills that will allow you to succeed regardless if we are visited by aliens or not. A good exercise may to be to have a discussion on how he would like aliens to change the world and how he would like to fit into such a change. Design the future and his place in it. Once he is old enough to figure out it is all just wishful thinking he will still be in a position to succeed.

If he thinks end of the world type crap then he needs to go talk with some professionals.

I followed UFO stories when I was a kid, but I seemingly turned out OK (all be it I may have some friends who would claim otherwise)...

I've always felt if UFOs came to light as being real, it would not change the world overnight.

In the event it is publicly announced Aliens exist and we are in contact with them, I believe I will still get up the next morning, get dressed & go to work...

I feel like itisportamt that we be truthful with our kids, and they need to know our feelings on the subject. I would explain there is still debate about the exact nature of alien involvement in our world.

I wold also tell them there is little evidence to indicate they mean us physical harm. Hd they wanted to attack us, they could have done that at any time. So, there is hope for humanity in any case.

Curiosity is a good thing. Encourage it.

I think many of us are struggling-- trying to figure out our true purpose unlike ever before in modern history.

My grandson, who is 3 years old for example, didn't want to partake in Halloween. He simply didn't see the point. He thought it was silly. So I think that's a real raw example of the change we're all going through.
Tradition is fading.

This materialized world and religion isn't working for (many of) us anymore. We're becoming more aware and sensitive to our surroundings and many feel detached because of that.

We KNOW aliens exist. That's a no-brainer and a moot point---here in the year 2012!
Many believe they are here or at least, were here. So once you wrap your head around that fact (which wasn't taught or talked about) we get confused and feel displaced which makes our true purpose beg for a logical answer.
I think if we lived in total love (which we don't) perhaps our lives would be different, hence; make sense,

So it sounds like your son maybe waking up and is effected by this great change that perhaps, the Mayans predicted?

I hope we're just living in the stormy part of history and there will be a rainbow when it's over.

Of course I do, what kind of question is that?
I also happen to COMMUNICATE with my child, which many parents don't do.
We don't just talk about ufos, but that is one subject he likes to talk about

Maybe you talked about this with your son, but I actually don't believe you for one minute. I think this is one of those hook threads done to attack ufology from yet a different angle.

Kids already see ufology things on youtube and facebook, and in movies, comics, books.

But there is no debunking it for your kids, when they've witnessed the crafts themselves and called the parents out to see them on occasion as well.

I'm sorry, but I don't actually believe this thread and will remain skeptical this ever happened.

Sorry your paranoid. No alternative here.

He's 20 and yes, there has been a recent love loss. I think he's using it as an excuse. He's scared, scared as we all (most) were at that age. Scared of growing up.
I hope he grows out of it but I want him to keep his open mind. I just don't want it to stiffel his personal growth.
Thanks all.

Tell him that when he meets a beautiful woman and she sees that he is a lazy, financially unstable, unmotivated pessimist, she is going to run for the hills because he has zero to offer, other than mental problems and conspiracies. He'll end up jerking himself off to weird internet porn and 20 years will come and go with no alien invasion and no "disclosure".

Tell him that. If that doesn't motivate him to change...then force him to get off his ass and do something with his life because you are not going to support a lazy person....and if that doesn't work...yeah, you ruined him.

Yes you have. If you tell fantasy stories to kids as though they were reality, of course they will end up living in a fantasy world.

Wake up kid, your Mom is right. It was probably the ghost who was screwing with your sleep because that is what they do. That is the time they can interact with you. They are the ones causing you nightmares and the occasional erotic dream [not all ghost are bad].

The girl angle will not work as there are plenty of women who like dead beets.

I would just pack him a bag with some clothes, blanket, pillow,, and an end is near sign on... then drive him to the corner he will stand at holding his sign.. .then drive him to the local soup kitchen where he will eat.. then drive him to the bridge he will be living under.

Hand him his things and tell him that if he wants to give up on life he might as well start living like the ones who already have.

have him meet a few hobos... i am sure he will change his mind.

My opinion is that he is just being lazy.

Tell him the truth. Tell him people used to believe the Earth was flat, the Earth was the center of the Universe and that there are trillions of unanswered questions. We evolved literally by getting the wrong answers which led to the eventual right answers. Tell him to question everything and that it is a healthy exercise. It is good for him to search for other answers. There may well be aliens watching us. We don't know. Just because they did not appear on the 21st does not mean they can't exist. A healthy mind will ponder the existence of aliens. The search for the truth always leads to better understanding of many other subjects and expands the mind. Try to broaden his horizons with other subjects.

Maybe you should say that you lied about all the alien stuff, never to talk about it anymore. He may be mad for lying but maybe at the end he will pick up some passes of life and go on, and until he's old enough to figure it out for himself.. I Have a four year old son, but I never talk about what I do here, or what I believe in on the UFO and alien topic. Because I can never proof it,he has to figure it out for himself...
