Or control us by threatening to. I can picture a Lex Luthor-esque super villian sitting in a high-rise, somewhere, with his finger poised over an 'OFF' button ready for someone to dare to have a free thought.

What's the difference?

Today people murder to keep control. Tomorrow they will remove the backup copy and murder you. Same difference.

Think of it like windows restore. An incrimental backup will be done every night before you go to sleep. If you get hacked to bits and raped from every orifice, you'll just wake up in a fresh synthetically grown, organic copy body and simply skip a day in consciousness.

No painful memories... all good.
