Secret Army Base near Williamsburg, VA

My brother-in-law told me not too long ago that there was a secret army base near Williamsburg, VA. I have never heard of one being here, but am curious as to whether or not anyone else has?

FT. Eustis is not a secret, if it were it wouldn't have "Ft. Eustis Blvd" named after it, nor would exit 246 on I-64 say "Ft. Eustis next exit".

I was stationed at Langley AFB for four years, which is just down the road.

He might be referring to Camp Peary, which supposedly hosts a covert CIA training post called "The Farm".

When I was there, I lived across the river in Isle of Wight County, where they produce the famous Smithfield hams. If you really want secret locations in that area, try finding the huge pig farms spread out across the county. Four years and I never found one.

Sounds as secret as this.

I know Ft. Eustis is not a secret. I've known this for quite a while now.

Camp Perry is real. I don't know about it being too secret since it has an airport. There is a halfway decent movie called "The Recruit" that is set in a mock up of Camp Perry.

Regarding the secret base, a little more detail would be handy.

On the east coast, you can always clear cut some trees and make a facility that is hard to snoop on from land.

He said that Patricia Cornwell used it in one of her books, but I haven't been able to find anything about the book and he can't remember it. When I ran it by my mom she was thinking maybe it was underground. I know a little bit about secret bases, I did live about 20 mins from one in NC.

There is plenty of spooky stuff in Virginia since it is the heart of the industrial part of the military industrial complex. I'm sure there are office buildings with fake names on the door or no names at all. James Bamford's "The Shadow Factory" documents a few of these spy facilities, at least the ones that do have names on the door. I located one on Google Earth, but it resembled any of the office facilities that have guard shacks these days.

Don't fall into the "base is underground" trap. For most purposes, just renting a plain old office or industrial building is fine for your secret organization. One of the buildings I've been in in Silicon Valley has the old security signs left in it like "No classified conversations by this door". I never was able to find who used to occupy it, but nice of them to leave the spooky signs.

Nellis AFB used to or maybe still does run an office in a building on Flamingo. It is in the Graystone Building. It came to light during a lawsuit. I checked it out and verified their name is not on the directory, but that doesn't mean they weren't there.

Poking around the net, I'm going to guess it is this building:
37°24'16.36"N 121°59'22.68"W

UPS trucks are chocolate on the outside, but have vanilla icing. Since it has UPS trucks there not during the holiday season based on photo dates, I now suspect UPS leases it full time. But I recall at Christmas, they would send you there rather than the main building.

Being a UPS depot pretty much rules out having a good look at it.

Lots of cool places through that whole area, always enjoyed puttering around in the valley since you never know what you will see and the used surplus places are fun to wonder around in while hunting for new toys.

Weird stuff Warehouse has been a long time favorite.

During the Christmas Rush, they sometimes open this depot as the place to send packages, and then the regular facility is where you receive packages. Thus now could be the time you can get in there. Pretend to be a customer. Just have a box handy so you look like you are going to ship something. Carrying props is perfectly fine tradecraft. Then pretend your cellphone vibrated, and leave the building.

Could you be referring to Yorktown weapons base? Its not secret but if you do not need to be there you cannot get in.

They just do weapons research there. Sometimes you cannot access a base not because its a secret but because of safety and the fact you do not need to be there.

Norfolk naval base 60 miles down the road is the largest Navy base in the world, but you would not have access unless you had an ID card or an escort. This base is also not secret.......lol.

I use to live right behind camp Perry on Skimino Road Williamsburg VA. you'd hear machine guns going off, bombs exploding, you'd see apache helicopters in and out a lot. Also you'd see blacked out vehchicles going in and out which were clearly government vehicles. Rumor has it its a CIA FBI training base. I still to this day visit my family that lives on Skimino road right behind camp Perry.. place hasn't changed at all.

My uncle works there he transports weapons in and out of the base. Camp Perry is its own base in Williamsburg va
